Parking Garage Murder Suspect: 'I Wanted To Kill Someone White'
By Eyewitness News' Tim Fleischer
(White Plains, Westchester County -WABC, July 5, 2005) The frightening motive behind a murder was revealed in court today when prosecutors played a videotaped confession from the man charged with stabbing a woman inside the Galleria parking garage.
A chilling confession on videotape by Phillip Grant played out on videotape during a felony hearing here in White Plains City Court. In his own words he said he was in a race war when he allegedly stabbed a legal secretary to death.
Arriving in court in a bullet proof vest, handcuffs and shackles, Phillip Grant showed no emotion listening to a videotaped confession that said, in part: "I wanted to kill someone who represents the white lifestyle. The white biggotted lifestyle."
He then admitted: "I did it and I have no remorse and I have no regret."
Grant claimed he first encountered legal secretary Connie Russo Carriero as she entered the seventh level of a parking garage where he grabbed her arm.
"I knew I wanted to kill her right then. She hit my knife, I picked it up and stabbed her twice."
Grant says he wandered the streets of White Plains for 18 days after he claims he was denied mental help. He also claims his racial feelings against whites grew after he was harassed by people on the street.
He told detectives of his victim: "I never seen her. It didn't matter as long as she had blonde hair and blue eyes - she was going to die."
The victim - Connie Russo Carriero - a wife and mother to two sons - was remembered during funeral services.
Joseph Delfino, White Plains Mayor: "She just loved her children, loved society and she was petite in size but big in heart."
White Plains Mayor Joseph Delfino is a friend of the family and joined mourners, who paid their final respects at a funeral mass in West Harrison.
But Connie Russo Carriero's tragic death is sparking debate over high risk sex offenders, who in some cases have been released on city streets.
Joseph Delfino: "We've got to be notified when they're in town and we've got to find them so we can keep a closer eye on them. After all, they're dropped at the Galleria."
In his confession Phillip Grant said: "I knew I couldn't get away with it, I just wanted the death penalty. I wanted to kill someone white."
The judge ordered then case then the the grand jury at which point Grant jumped up and shouted that he wanted to make a statement, he wanted to testify before the grand jury - at which point the judge said that he must consult with his attorney.
We are awaiting some word from District Attorney Jeanine Pirro on whether she will file or seek hate crime charges in addition to the murder charges.
He picked the wrong state to commit this crime in. New York state does not have a death penalty. Even for the brief moment when it did have the death penalty, it wasnt enforced.
If the races were reversed I doubt the wait would have been a long one. Too bad this pig won't hang or get the needle. Prayers for this woman's family.
---New York state does not have a death penalty.---
His chances of getting stabbed to death in prison are pretty good though.
Wasn't there another bozo saying the same thing that shot some teenager just recently?
there is no need for anyone to have a concealed carry permit. Just call 911 and the police will come to help...outline your body with chalk.
I'm pretty sure NY still has the death penalty. But as you say, it is never used.
..but it had to be someone small, and a woman, cuz I'm not only a f'n psychopath, I'm a world class pussy too !
Yeah, and of course that was the motivation of Colin Ferguson -- which the NY media turned into a call for gun control. This murder might have been prevented if that poor woman had an effective means to resist that monster. God bless her, she tried, but a petite woman and an average man are an unfair match in a fight.
d.o.l.
Criminal Number 18F
"...high risk sex offenders, who in some cases have been released on city streets."
Someone tell me why in the hell was he released "on city streets" in the first place??!!
I've seen Pirro on Fox, she seems pretty tough.
Don't hold your breath. Ms Pirro is preoccupied with the Missing Persons Channel - er Fox "News" Channel - to waste her time with this case.
WTF?
Didn't they hear his confession, where he said he just wanted to kill someone white?
Or are they trying to spin this as a "sex crime" hoping nobody asks that it be called a "hate crime?" (As if there's any other kind...)
Can you imagine if a white guy supposedly uttered a racial slur while doing this and kept his mouth shut for the police. The uproar would be coast to coast without the detailed confession.
I haven't heard a peep about this.
This guy thinks he can beat the rap because he is crazy, but he isnt crazy enopugh to try to kill a large man.
This is a hate crime and should be tried as such.
Nope.
Ever wonder what kind of crime provoked lynch mobs in the first place?
Here you are.
We live in unbelievable violent times.
Just the other day, up near Seattle, a guy was driving his pickup truck, and was shot in the face with a shotgun and killed by another person who just wanted to kill a white guy.
Will become a Muslim while in prison.
Of course not you silly goose!
