John Conyers: Karl Rove Should Resign

Leading White House critic Rep. John Conyers is reportedly calling on President Bush to force his top political advisor Karl Rove to publicly explain his role in the Valerie Plame affair or resign his office.

In a letter obtained by the left-wing web site Raw Story which is now being circulated in the House, the Michigan Democrat cites recent reports that Rove discussed Plame with Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper before she was outed as a CIA agent in July 2003. Tuesday, July 5, 2005 11:16 p.m. EDT John Conyers: Karl Rove Should Resign

Story Continues Below

"Notwithstanding whether Mr. Rove intentionally violated the law in leaking information concerning former CIA operative Valerie Plame," Conyers tells Bush, "we believe it is not tenable to maintain Mr. Rove as one of your most important advisors unless he is willing to explain his central role in using the power and authority of your Administration to disseminate information regarding Ms. Plame and to undermine her husband, Ambassador Joseph Wilson." The Conyers letter urges Bush to "require" Rove "to either come forward immediately to explain his role in the Valerie Plame matter or to resign from your Administration."

Three weeks ago Conyers staged a mock impeachment hearing based on the so-called Downing Street Memo, which purports to show that Bush lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

PS (Con't from post# 13)....Because I saw the reporter talking about Plames book and how it credited his CIA wife, I thought it was odd that a few days later Washington was in a tizzy about someone leaking her CIA status.
I thought to myself "What's the big deal? It's right in the front of his book. Anyone watching the news would know that."

That's why I remember all this so well. I wondered why people didn't just ask the reporter about Plames book if they wanted to know about Plames wife and her CIA status.
It's all on film somewhere. They'll find it dated a few days before the "leak" was discovered.

The Washington Post is right.

Plame is a she.

Her husband. He wrote the book, and mentioned she was CIA right in the front. The reporter mentioned it, saying it was sweet or something that he gave her the credit for being his wife. This was before I heard about the "announced leak." She was giving a review of the book before it was printed.

I think the Wa.Post is right.

Conyers should definitely step down.

Conyers is a hypocrite SLAVEMASTER.  All his constituents are willing accomplices to this slavery because they re-elect him endlessly. He won't ever step down, and this embarrassment to the nation will never step down until a death of natural causes.

I wouldn't object if he took a dive onto the spike bed before resigning.

Conyers is demented. Who cares what he "thinks" about anything. One might as well become lost in comparing the flatulence of one bovine vs another.

Remember......it's not the existence of evidence, it's the seriousness of the charge that counts.

I think I'll cross stitch this maxim on a sampler and hang it on my bathroom wall.
