Heard him on the car radio this AM...he sounded quite shaken. He did not remind me of Churchill.

Most of the Churchill speeches you heard were NOT Churchill.

Back then, it was illegal to record sound in Commons, so Churchill had to deliver speech at Commons, then go to BBC to repeat it for transcription disks. Took lots of time.

So they hired an actor who could do a great Churchill impersonation and he did the BBC recordings. And those are the recordings we have today.
