here's one I found: " A horse of good bottom means of good stamina, good foundation."
I've seen the phrase used in British books to refer to people as well.
So, I guess we're both right!

Well...different meanings. "Courage" and "foundation" are not the same, obviously; so, to put a fine point on it, I was correct in my use of "bottle" and when you "corrected" me by suggesting that I meant "bottom," you were incorrect.
