Speaking of trashing Constitutional rights, remember that the Second World War led to the detention of over 100,000 innocent American civilians of Japanese descent. We, indeed, knew how to win WWII, but we made our share of mistakes in the process.
Internment camps were not a mistake in any way, shape or form. Better safe than sorry. Expecting to retain, make that demanding to retain all of our civil rights during war time is beyond naive, it utter stupidity.
I don't believe it is clear that the interment camps were "mistakes". If even 0.01% of those Japanese jailed had a tendency to be enemy agents, jailing them saved untold American lives, and may have cut years from the war.
