Muslim Public Affairs Council Extends Condolences

LOS ANGELES -- The Muslim Public Affairs Council extended condolences Thursday to the families of those killed in a series of deadly explosions in London and stressed that any act of terrorism is unacceptable.

MPAC officials also said they fear possible backlash against American Muslims similar to that seen after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States if the perpetrators claim Islam as their religion.

"Clearly, we are concerned that this will be another instance where individuals will use these events to say that Muslims are not being loud enough in condemning terrorism," said Edina Lekovic, MPAC's communications director. "This just underscores what we have been saying pre-9/11 and continue to say, which is that we oppose all forms of terrorism."

At least 37 people died in the London attacks, and more than 700 people were injured. A group calling itself the Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe has claimed responsibility for the bombings, which targeted London's subway and bus systems.

"These attacks, if they are done in the name of Islam, are abhorrent to Islam," Lekovic said. "They violate Quranic tendencies; they violate Quranic principles and they violate all principles having to do with Islam."

About 600,000 Muslims live in Southern California, mostly in Los Angeles and Orange counties, making it one of the largest American Muslim populations in the United States, Lekovic said. There are more than 60 mosques in the Southland.

Actually I was hunting terrors for over 20 years and no longer capable except by reporting, which obviously they aren't doing

Sir, thank you for your service. You indeed have been involved and apparently still are. My original comment was more to the point that you shouldn't assume everyone who isn't actively working on it is helping the terrorists. I'm sure most people on this site are not actively hunting terrorists.

So I'm curious. What ARE you doing to crush, kill, destroy terrorism?

Paying my taxes and leaving it to the professionals.

Not exactly a good way to start ones stay on FR actually. To be fair, your post was in itself pretty fairly 'boneheaded'

Fair comment, I went too far with the "bonehead" remark.

As a former muslim myself, please allow me to state that it is essential to understand one very very important fact mention in item number 2 below. When CAIR and MPAC condemn "all forms of terrorism", they are doing two things -

1. Obviously, they always try to highlight the hypocritical fact that they are the real victims of the backlash from terrorism.

2. By saying "...we oppose all forms of terrorism," they are perfectly in line with the Hadith and Quran. Because terrorism is NOT recognized in Islam. So it is important to read between the lines when these JOKERS make such claims as opposing terrorism.

Let me state this:
We should believe them only when they will come out with one voice and condemn and oppose all forms of violence caused by the Jihad that Quran dictates in numerous verses.Until then, all their claims of condemning terrorism are all bogus.

I hope our media and general public will be able to distinguish this simple fact.

Balderdash. The reaction of Americans after the 9/11 attack was almost history-making in its restraint. That's a fact. Very few instances of 'backlash' against Muslims, and all the rest is fabricated for propaganda purposes, claiming the status of victimhood. Gimmeabreak. It up to the Muslims in America to prove their loyalty to the US, not our problem to assume that their innocence.

There are ways you can make one yourself, with the iron-on plastic sheet and your printer. Make me one while you're at it, ok? I love the idea.

The Muslim Public Affairs Council extended condolences..

If they want to make me feel better they would start packing their bags for a transatlantic flight with a one way ticket.

"This just underscores what we have been saying pre-9/11 and continue to say, which is that we oppose all forms of terrorism."

It took 2.5 years after 9/11 for me to hear any Muslim anywhere in the world unequivocally condemn terrorism like this. I kept very close track.

Now that we're 4 years on and they can use their words, what ACTION can we expect of them? I would like to see regular reports of the muslim community turning in their co-religionists who promote violence. Sadly, I recall only one of these cases in about 4 years.

Get freeking busy, boys.
