Shaven Portman Stopped by Police (NYPD Homeland Security)
imdb.com / INTERNET MOVIE DATABASE ^ | 8 July 2005 | WENN - Movie TV News

Posted on 07/08/2005 11:49:32 AM PDT by StuLongIsland

Actress Natalie Portman was stopped by New York police recently, and has blamed her newly-shaven head on raising suspicions with officers. The Golden Globe-winning beauty, 24, was driving through the midtown tunnel - which connects the New York City borough of Queens with Manhattan - when she was pulled over for questioning. Portman has recently shaved all her hair off for her next movie V For Vendetta. She tells Newsweek magazine, "I've never had that happen to me before. It's supposedly random... My registration was expired because I had been out of town, and it was my first day back. I'd been in Israel and Berlin for the shooting. They wouldn't let me go in. But he said to take the bridge instead. And I didn't understand that logic. If you're a suspect, don't take the tunnel, take the bridge?"

My point of posting this celeberty news is that to show NYPD is working at the Bridges and Tunnels. I don't care less about the celeberty. I have not traveled by car into Manhattan in quite sometime, but it is nice to know they are actually spot checking cars going into the tunnels. I guess at the Bridge there is another check.

If I were a cop in NYC, I'd stop Natalie Portman whether she's got a shaved head or not.

Look at your NYS plates in the light and tilt them. There are three nearly invisible state seals running vertically down the center. The cameras at the toll booths read info on these. There are no tolls at the 59th Street Bridge.

She is a dolt. They would not let her go through the tunnel because a bomb exploding in a confined space would be far more devastating than on a bridge.

If they were worried about her having a bomb why not pick her up, or close the tunnel?

The National Weather Service is reporting that the temperatures is a little to chilly to be wearing that dress.

I am sure that they did not have probable cause to search the car, and most likely did not suspect that she had a bomb, but they most likely have regulations that say if you have an expired registration, burned-out head light, et al. This would be in-line with the "broken windows" (or Minneapolis) model of policing. That model understands that police generally catch major criminals through simple infractions like failing to get their car registration renewed, spitting on the sidewalk, or even jay walking.

They could have made her park her car if they wanted to. The registration had expired. I am sure that she would have been complaining even more loudly if they had done that.

"and has blamed her newly-shaven head on raising suspicions with officers" but also said "My registration was expired because I had been out of town". You don't suppose her brains were in her hair? Gee, might the cops have been checking out her tag rather than her hair? Also, isn't it nice how she worked a plug in for her movie? She probably called her publicist in tears about the incident and it was taken from there. Incidentally, was she driving herself? Can't be a tier one star if you don't have a driver.

An expired tag isn't probable cause?

I figured she had just gotten the lead role in "The Sinead O'Connor Story."
