Massive global manhunt builds picture of killers

World's police meet to share information

Sunday July 10, 2005 The Observer

Gradually a picture is starting to build up. There was no lone suicide bomber. There was no one terrorist acting on his own. The probability is that the worst terrorist attack in Britain was carried out by at least a four-person cell using synchronised explosive devices attached to timers. And Britain might not have been the only target. There is evidence that atrocities were also being planned in Italy and possibly in Denmark.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Such knowledge will not cheer the 100 senior police officers, drawn from forces across the world, who this weekend descended on the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police in London in a bid to share intelligence on the attacks. But it will help the intelligence agencies start to obtain a clearer idea of what they are up against - and who they are looking for.

The unprecedented meeting of the world's senior police officers will be chaired by the Metropolitan Police's Assistant Commissioner, Andy Hayman, the man who is heading the investigation into the London bombings.

'You can never over-estimate the value of a briefing from overseas partners,' Hayman said yesterday. 'We wanted to be joined up because this type of terrorism affects the world.'

Officers from 32 countries including France, Italy, Australia, Israel, America, the Czech Republic, Japan, the Netherlands, Turkey, the United States and Switzerland are attending the summit. They also include a delegation from Spain, whose officers are hoping to share knowledge gleaned after the Madrid bombings.

One security source said: 'We learnt after Madrid that it is important to get a scrum down early on and swap information.'

The emergency meeting comes after Italian police yesterday arrested 142 people as part of an anti-terror operation in Milan, which was launched almost immediately after the London attack. One and a half kilograms of explosive were recovered in raids involving more than 2,000 Carabinieri and directly aimed at boosting security at underground stations in the city.

Later it emerged that an unknown al-Qaeda group, which last week claimed responsibility for the London bombings on a website, had threatened Italy and Denmark with similar attacks, although its credibility has been questioned.

Meanwhile, in Dubai a group claiming links to al- Qaeda also revealed in an internet statement that it was behind the London attacks. 'A group of mujahideen from the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades delivered one blow after the other in the infidels' capital, the capital of the English,' said the statement signed by the group. It is the third such claim by different groups.

Yesterday police revealed that, contrary to earlier reports, the bombs on the underground had not occurred over a 30-minute period as had been previously thought. There had been speculation that this meant a solo bomber could have placed the devices on the tube trains.

But after analysing technical data provided by the London Underground, the police confirmed the three devices detonated within moments of each other.

'We can clarify the position that the three bombs exploded almost simultaneously,' said Scotland Yard Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick.

'Maybe that lends more towards timing devices than people actually with the bombs manually detonating. But we are not ruling out either possibility,' Paddick said. He declined to comment on whether a timer had been found at the scene of one explosion.

Privately, intelligence experts say they now believe the London Underground data suggests at least four terrorists were at work last week. The fact that the type of explosives used was not hand-made, but small 10lb commercial high explosives, probably linked to a timing device, suggests a level of sophistication and financing.

MI5 is combing through its files and is believed to be focusing on almost 100 suspects who could have carried out the operation.

Meanwhile experts at Qinetiq, the government's former research agency, are to begin creating computer simulations that will show the locations of where the bombs were planted and the directions of the blast.

Their work has been made all the more crucial by the revelation that the CCTV system on the Number 30 bus had not been working since June. The broken camera is bound to cause consternation over the condition of the 6,000 CCTV cameras installed on the underground. Around 500 officers are now helping to scrutinise the footage.

Yesterday forensic experts continued to pore over the sites of the four bomb blasts. The government's Forensic Science Services agency has removed thousands of samples to its laboratory in Birmingham and several Metropolitan Police facilities in the capital for processing.

But the forensics work is hampered by the grim conditions in the Piccadilly underground system, located 500 metres from King's Cross. The tunnel near Russell Square in London's Bloomsbury district remains unsafe in the immediate area around the blast. Engineers are concerned that the crucial steel lining that strengthens the tunnel, which has been bored through clay, may have been ruptured in the blast. They are currently considering a plan to drag several carriages down the track to obtain access to the wrecked first carriage in the train where the bomb went off. It is believed that more than 20 bodies are still trapped in the wreckage.

A specialist team of senior police officers, coroners and medical experts is now trying to ensure that the bodies are correctly identified.

The daily meetings of the newly formed Identification Commission will take place at an undisclosed military site in central London, where a temporary mortuary has been set up.

Led by Westminster coroner Dr Paul Knapman, Scotland Yard's senior identification manager, Detective Superintendent Jim Dickie, and Home Office pathologist, Rob Chapman, the commission will be supported by a team of hundreds of police staff and other experts, many of whom have experience of major terrorist attacks or natural disasters, including the devastating Asian tsunami on Boxing Day.

The commission will oversee a painstaking and complex identification process using fingerprints, dentistry and DNA to conclusively identify the victims. Experts said that it may take weeks to identify some of the bodies. Police are currently checking the details on their Holmes missing persons database.

Meanwhile a 24-hour, central London support centre has also been set up to offer practical and emotional support to those whose relatives have been killed or are missing.

The centre in the Queen Mother Sports Centre at 223 Vauxhall Bridge Road is manned by staff from the British Red Cross, Victim Support, Salvation Army, Cruse Bereavement and social services.

The article mentions that it was done by at least a 4 person cell. That number should be changed to a 1 billion person cell!!!

As a "picture" develops, I'm sure the authorities will be informing us about who to look for, just like after 9-11. Yep.

As time goes by and more people read tiny "whoops's" that indicate long before America was forced to remove Saddam, these creeps have been setting up cells all over the world.
People have to remember before we went into A and I, terrorist rammed two planes into our Trade towers and one into the Pentagon, and a forth into a field outside Pittsburg PA., due to some courages men on board aborting their plan.
People have to remember the attacks on the Marine Barracks in Beriut, on our Naval ship the Cole, on our embassies in Africa, on the heaven knows how many attacks on Israel over the years, on the attacks in many Arab nations over the years.
None of this was caused by GWB and Tony deciding to remove a key player in terrorism from Iraq. Remember those $25,000 matyre monies going to suicide bombers from the Butcher of Baghdad for each goon who would blow up a Jew.
Remember the Jews killed in Germany during the Olympics. Remember Pan Am 109. Remember the beheading of 800 Jews some 1400 years ago. And remember the vast amount of horror the Arabs in the name of Allah committed for century after century after century. They started it all. History is simply not on their side, no matter how clever they try to lie to themselves or to what used to be the ignorant infidels. They can no longer hide. It is sad for the hundreds of millions of them that do indeed abhor what some of them do, and don't be ignorant folks, many of them do their very best to totally ignore those verses in three chapters of the Qu'ran that spell out the duties of a faithfull Muslim who really submits to allahs will. But for those they had better start taking charge and Muslim dominated governments better start shaping up, or they will find the rest of the world really start truly turning on them. And dispite a lot of our bitterness in remarks the fact does remain, that Muslim dominated countries are being forced into a corner. They do realize that it is up to them to start removing on a permenant level much of the source clerical cause for much of this shit. We must remember just for instance, though the Saudis and Egyptians sponsor much of what goes on, the government level and in the case of the Royal Family want no parts of it, and in fact have been trying to remove a lot of bad Ali Babba for years.

But sadly. The end point is. The cult demands all to submit to allahs will, not that they have the slightest idea what the hell that even means. Satan developed the perfect way to control millions of peoples. The very nature of their cult cannot be changed. That is the problem. But obviously one cannot simply dropped thousands of nuclear devices on populated areas, you will run out of nuclear devices and there will still be millions of Muslims left around the world. They are all over. Are we to nuke half of Malaysia, the Phillipines, Indonesia, most European countries, cities in Russian, etc.. So it is silly to say you can just drop nuclear devices on them. Plus as I and others repeatively have said over time, you can't just nuke Mecca, because we need their oil. And their oil refinaries, wells, pumping stations are all rigged to go boom, if we tried such a stunt.

One hundred and forty-two!

Not enough, but it's a good start to kick these thugs out of Italy and out of our Europe.

Ted Kennedy and George Galloway know this full well.

Yep, they are everywhere, and a totally Islamic world is their revolutionary goal.

This has been coming for a long time, and there have been many obvious signs, as you so well enumerated.

9/11 had to be the Islamic extremists' declaration of war, holy war. And so it continues, with no rational reason to believe they're going to ever stop.

Their destruction is the only answer we have and will ever have.

My idea this evening is to call a world emergency summit, with the goal of deporting ALL Muslims back to their countries of origin or nationality, and not allow them to emigrate to any non-Muslim countries.

Iran also must be nuclearly neutralized, and we know we can do that.

I think we're approaching the point of desperation with Muslims, and strong, decisive action is needed NOW!

ME:"None of this was caused by GWB and Tony deciding to remove a key player in terrorism from Iraq."

YOU: "Ted Kennedy and George Galloway know this full well."

And that is why those two blithering fools should be grabbed by a special ops team, loaded on a C130 from their respective countries and airdrop them over lets say a very remote far northwest Al Anbar city area like Ar Rutbah, and let our Marines decide what to do with them. Perhaps our guys could prior to shoving em out the cargo door, spray paint their names, and a big "Traitors" on their backs.

I cannot help, and I am sure many at this site, agree with what you suggest. Sad as it may be, and lets face it, there are some good Muslims that could care a crap less about what a lot of the Qu'ran has to say. They got out with their families and made a better life in say the USA.They probably cringe each time they hear what so many radicals represent.
That is the sad element of this whole deal. Heck there is a Muslim scholar that has been asked to serve at a southern Baptist well known university. This particular universities chancler has been very vocal over the years as how screwed up Islam is. But apparently has found this particular individual well adjusted etc.. So I can't go along with killing millions of people that may in the reality not go along with the Qu'ranic verses that speak of subjugation of others etc.. Some of us tend to forget they are not all camel humpers, some are very educated in western ways and would prefere the west to the mideast.
But I surely can sympathize with your feelings, most of us do.

My response can be found at post #13. If anything I would see no harm in sending a few nukes to the ereaser head. They have no oil.
