Much ado about nothing, but they will try of course.
From Powerline blog.......
"SCOTT adds: Hilail Gildin writes: "Andrea Mitchell was asked, on MSNBC, whether it was generally known to news people, before the hullabaloo, that Ms. Planme worked for the CIA. She answered, somewhat reluctantly, that it was. In the light of this, I don't understand the ensuing fuss."
The issue, though, is whether it was common knowledge she was covert. And also whether Rove told anyone she was covert.
Apparently, he did not.
Maybe it's a lib and she is trying to soften the blow to the dem party.
During today's FR blackout, I went over to DU to see what's new. They think this Rove/Plame thing is going to be the downfall of the Bush Regime. LOL! Rove will go to jail and since what Rove knows, Cheney knows, Cheney will go too, and then it'll be safe to impeach Bush.
I have never seen so many sick people in one place since Woodstock.
The SP told Rove that he was not being investigated.
It seems that the SP does not like being lied to. Thus the pressure on the reporters.
The Dems and Libs are desperate. Rather then try to use their energy on something useful, like trying to figure out what it is they stand for. The still desperatly try to find a way to undo the election. Pathetic.
I'm pretty sure if you are a known CIA agent you couldn't possibly be covert.
Also, if it weren't a lib, why would anyone in MSM be willing to go to the greybar hotel?
(Or, did I miss something here?)
but but but but she was a super duper secret super spy!
The list of people inside the beltway who didn't know that Plame was a spook is infinitesimally shorter than the list of people who knew she was.
"The issue, though, is whether it was common knowledge she was covert "
If everyone knew she worked there, I think that rules out being covert.
So when we see these movies where the undercover CIA agent has this cover job as an insurance agent or whatever, that's not how it really works! The CIA's cover story is "You work for the CIA."
She was covert, and then went into CIA management in an noncovert position. But just because she made that shift doesn't mean that you can disclose that she was previously covert. The law protects the identity of previously covert operatives, as well. The purpose is to protect the CIA, and to protect her prior contacts, who were probably still covert.
But the key is that Rove did not disclose that she was covert. He talked to Cooper about her, but did not tell Cooper she was covert. In fact, he did not even know she was covert.
She wasn't covert, or at least she hadn't been for 4 or 5 years.Even when she was covert, she told Joe Wilson that she was a CIA agent on the first night that she met him. Who knows who else she was telling. The woman sounds like a security threat, herself.
Not true. They did not know she worked there when she was covert.
You guys are missing the point here. The point is that Rove did not tell Cooper she was covert. He did not even know that she was covert.
Andrea dresses nicely, but that face is coyote. And I am sure Alan gives her plenty of "inside tips".
If Rove was saying who sent Wilson to Niger and it was his wife is that not true?...how else are the facts to get out?
I have to disagree. They do stand for something. They just can't tell anyone because no one wants socialism in this country.
So what, exactly, does the Hollywood left want with a CIA secret agent and her low-level diplomat husband? Oh yeah..... stop Bush.
I knew a car mechanic once whos cover was that he was an undercover CIA guy
She may have been a security risk, but that still does not exonerate whoever leaked the fact that she was covert (if anyone did). The primary purpose of this law is not just to protect her, but to protect her contacts, as well, who might very well still be in the field.
On the other hand, if no one intentionally leaked the fact that she was covert, then there is no crime.
They think it was common knowledge with the press, but was never reported, and didn't really think anyone told Novak, they figured he just knew like everyone else did.
They were surprised he printed it though.
I don't believe that's the case at all. Rove's lawyer claims that Rove disclosed nothing concerning Plame to Cooper. Indeed, some months ago, Rove waived his confidentiality with all reporters. Cooper and the rest are free to reveal any and all discussions they have had with Rove.
It is far more likely, however, that it was Cooper who told Rove about Valerie Plame, her employment at CIA and her relationship to Joe Wilson.
She was NOT covert. There is a time limit on how long the rule is applicable and she was past the time limit. There was no crime!
Watch the moonbats lose their minds AGAIN when this goes nowhere and Rove laughs at them one more time.
He doesn't have to.
He is allowed to invest out right in stocks, bonds, etc.
He does have a financial portfolio and he is allowed to control it, its not in a trust.
If your wondering about conflict of interest...check out the 1982 court case "Lewis v. United States".
Greenspan can do whatever the heck he pretty much wants with his own money and whatever information he gets or has or knows.
I understand that she was once a covert agent, but the evidence points to her having been known (in Washington social circles) as a CIA agent. The very fact that she was widely known to work at the CIA means Rove couldn't have possibly "outted" her. All he did was state that Wilson had been sent to Africa on her recommendation, which was true.
Wilson had been shown to be a liar and he, the democrats and their mouthpiece MSM wanted to try and embarrass the Administration. So they threw up the "outted" allegations, and they got caught in their own liars web.
There's no way I have ant sympathy for the creeps......
Rove's lawyer today admitted that Rove talked to Cooper about Wilson, and told Cooper that Wilson's wife had suggested sending him to Africa.
So, he apparently admits that he talked to Cooper about this. But there is still no evidence that he told Cooper she was covert.
I don't know why our side persists in trying to muddy the waters on this. It's very simple: He did not tell Cooper she was covert. That is what the law prohibits. All of these other defenses just confuse the issue.
Why go down that road, though? Both Cooper and Rove say that Rove did not say she was covert. Heck, Rove did not even know she was covert, so how could he have outted her? You don't even get to the question of whether someone outted her before Rove. Rove did not do it.
Thanks. I was unaware of that.
Rove's lawyer seemed to take the exact opposite tack until today.
Yeah, he's putting it out bit by bit. But Cooper's notes are now public, and they don't say that Rove told him Plame was covert.
If the left supposedly knew all of this "for many months", why didn't it come out as an "October surprise" before the election? Like the national guard nonsense. If they thought there was a story there that could hurt GWB, they would certainly have made it an issue.
I thought Gannongate was going to be THE ONE..LOL
Lawyer said Rove didn't mention her name.
What isn't clear is if Cooper already new about "Wilson's wife."
Unless Novak is a total liar, his first source was not Rove.
They would like to "get" Rove as much, if not more, than the President. This just ain't a "got'cha".
I know it's a nit but if the list is "infinitesimally shorter" that means the lists are almost the same length.
For the record, I didn't know she was a covert operative until Wilson told me on national TV. Why isn't he being sent to jail for outing his wife? He obviously knew she was a covert CIA operative.
Actually, how did he know that? Did she tell him? He didn't have a position in government where he should have known that information. But he clearly knew it, and he knew it was against the law to reveal it and he revealed it anyway.
I don't think so. Rove and his lawyer have always said that he didn't "out" her. The information we got today seems to prove that.
Cooper's notes say that Rove just said that Wilson's wife was the one who recommended sending him on the mission. And that she worked for the CIA.
He didn't give her name, and I find it hard to believe that anyone would think she was a "covert operator" if she was working at Langley in a position to make that kind of recommendation.
I suppose one could invent scenarios that would make it look like Rove did something wrong, but that's all it would be - an invention.
I've been fighting with libs on an obscure site about this. One guy said Bushs' house of cards is falling. I told him, 'according to the libs it's been falling since Nov. 2000 and by Nov. 2008 it will be over. Bush must be using super-glue on those cards'.
They don't like me much there. LOLOLOL
It looks like Rove did not give her name......and did not mention that she was covert.
It looks like he did not even know here name or that she may have been covert.
It looks like she may have not even been covert.
The Newsweak article points out that there is nothing to suggest that Rover gave her name or mentioned anything about her being an "agent".
When I saw this on Powerline.....I was like....
"I saw that!".
I was watching when Mitchell said that.
When did this Vanity Fair magazine come out?
don't forget her decoder ring!
Umm... did the National Review and the rest of the press corps figure that they knew all about Plame but foreign intelligence agencies did not? This is one of the most bizarre stories I have ever heard. I have no clue what's going on, but I do hope that Judith Miller rots in prison.
Rule 1 of Liberalism:
Facts, logic, and consistency are irrelevant.
It seems Plame told everybody she worked for the CIA.
That's what could be gathered when they were speaking with Andrea Mitchell about it on MSNBC (mentioned in post).
I remember watching that segment.
Plame seems to be an attention whore.
Tonight on Drudge, Coulter mentioned that was a desk person and she could not have been very 'covert' running around DC in that little BMW and driving into Langley's front gates everyday.
