ISLAMABAD: US has said it will meet Pakistan defence and military requirements to maintain military balance in South Asia. This was said by US secretary of state Condoleeza Rice in her telephonic talks with Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri here Thursday.

Both the leaders exchanged views in details on all the dimensions of US, Pakistan bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.

As per foreign office details, Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri apprised US secretary of state of Pakistan concerns on the new US-India defence agreement saying Pakistan wants to maintain military balance in South Asia. " We don't want new and advanced weapons systems come in the region which destabilizes security situation in the region", he underlined.

Condoleeza Rice assured Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri that her country would remain responsive to Pakistan security concerns. US is mindful of the fact that Pakistan is both a key strategic ally and a Major Non-NATO ally which could not be overlooked.

Both the leaders talked about ongoing peace process between Pakistan and India. Kasuri said Pakistan wants to resolve all contentious issues including Kashmir issue with India in a peaceful manner.

With reference to Afghanistan Kasuri said Pakistan will continue to support President Karzai government. " We are supportive of peaceful holding of upcoming parliamentary elections in Afghanistan", he assured. Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz will visit Kabul on July 24, he informed.

US secretary of state expressed appreciation for Pakistan continued cooperation in Afghanistan.

Both the leaders exchanged views on Iraq situation. Kasuri told that Pakistan has relocated his ambassador in Iraq to Amman temporarily. However, Pakistan embassy will remain open in Iraq, he told.

Sources told that both the leaders reiterated their resolve to expand cooperation with each other in war on terror.

US assured Pakistan it would take into account Pakistan military and defence needs and treat Pakistan as a major Non-Nato ally to maintain military balance in South Asia.

Kasuri and Rice strongly condemned bomb attacks in London.

Wrong people to give him up. Ask the ChiComs - they OWN binny boy. (Of course, they own Pakistan as well, which makes me wonder what happens to anything we sell the Paks. Evidently it is reverse engineered without all the hassle of stealing the technology directly from us or buying it from Israel.)

How lame. Forget about balance:
1) Drop the Pakistanis like a hot potato - the only thing we'll ever really get from them is a good backstabbing
2) Embrace India, move her away from Russia and Iran
3) Then, bring the SW portion of ASEAN into the mix and get them out of the expanding clutches of the SCO
4) On this foundation, build a new SEATO-plus - inclusive of additional players such as Japan, Taiwan, and Israel
5) Fire all the outdated followers of "Nixonger" and "Billary" from both the diplomatic and military/intel arenas and silence the Red Team.
6) Etc
