A Law That Means Business(Immigration Enforcement)
LOS ANGELES TIMES ^ | July 12, 2005 | Tamar Jacoby

Posted on 07/12/2005 7:30:00 AM PDT by kellynla

Our immigration system is out of control. We can't hold the line at the border. We can't prevent the hiring of unauthorized workers. Despite our tough rhetoric, an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants feed a vast underground economy that makes a mockery of the rule of law.

No wonder the public is hungry for tougher enforcement — and no wonder politicians from House Republican leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas) to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) are responding with promises to crack down.

Enhanced enforcement of immigration law is a key element of the legislation introduced in May by Kennedy and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). And it will surely be part of the more conservative Senate bill expected this month from Republicans John Cornyn of Texas and Jon Kyl of Arizona.

But just because everyone agrees more enforcement is necessary that doesn't mean we are on the verge of a solution. In fact, this only sets up a new battle between those who believe we can solve the immigration problem by appropriating money for enforcement only and those who see enforcement as part of a broader reform package.

It's not that we don't know how to enforce the law. We do. But by itself, enforcement doesn't work. Consider our success on the border in Southern California. Over the last decade, we tripled the manpower and quintupled the budget for policing what used to be the four busiest crossing points in California and Texas. And in each case, we managed to dramatically reduce the number of migrants apprehended in each sector.

It's not that we "can't" it's that our exalted leaders won't.

They plan to dump the U.S. and it's annoying Constitution for the freedom(for them) of the New North American Community.

Absolutely no point in defending a border you plan to erase in a few years.

We'll see no action at all, other than a poorly disguised amnesty for a few million crimaliens and more services for the invaders, stolen from the American taxpayers.

one more 9/11 type terrorist attack and the clowns in D.C. will have to wake up because Americans at that point will say 1993, 2001 and now this; means, three strikes you're out!
And every Muslim swinging dick and his family will have to pack bag and baggage and go back to whatever hellhole they originated from.

Americans will demand that the borders be secured, ALL illegals and Muslims be deported! PERIOD!

Semper Fi,
Kelly

Tamar Jacoby is the shill in chief for the Bush Shamnesty. From her, a promise of tough enforcement is like putting one of the Kennedy family in charge of ensuring your daughter's virginity.

She claims the McCain-Kennedy bill has tough enforcement provisions but actually it is incredibly weak. Mainly it just provides for a few new studies of border security and provides Mexico with a bunch of funds to secure THEIR southern border.

Mainly, the Kennedy-McCain bill is a giant amnesty that allows 10 million illegals to pay a minor fine ($1200) and then they can stay as long as they remain employed (and we all believe that will be enforced). After 6 years they can pay another minor fine and they get a greencard. They are also required to file and "pay" back income taxes which in reality means that for most of them, they will get a huge refund courtesy of the rest of us real taxpayers in the form of the Earned Income Tax Credit(EITC). In total, the cost of purchasing US citizenship is less than they payed their coyote to smuggle them into America in the first place and most of it will be funded by taxpayers in the form of the EITC. And the Kennedy-McCain Bill is a rolling amnesty which institutionalizes illegal immigration because this process of "regularization" will not be available just to the illegals who are here now but also any who come in the future. Any illegal who can make it past our borders in the future will pay the $1200 fine and be allowed to stay first as a guestworker and eventually as a citizen.

Tamar Jacoby is trying to use lipstick to put a smiley face on a pig. She should not be given a shred of credibility.

Here is a funny audio interview of John and Ken absolutely raking Tamar Jacoby over the coals about a year ago

I think it's far better to have them here as illegals rather than legals...

After all they try not to draw too much attention to themselves...

They are not going to go into court to sue and employer or lobby for union benefits, wages, or protection..

If they get hurt on the job ..they go back to Mexico or lie low with a relative until they get back on their feet and back to work..

If they complain too much you can fire them and not worry about a herd of union goons trying to muscle you into keeping them..

An employer is freer to be a Simon Legree or Ashley Wilkes
(villain or generous humanitarian)

Once they are 'allowed' in and given legal status all that will most likely change..

Their bros over here in el norte ..especially the ones with law degrees will found a whole new field of practice..

I hope my daughter goes to law school and I would encourage her to major in this new field of law...her espanol is pretty good too..

Yep tomorrows legal aliens will learn the benefits of counsel when it comes to negotiating with all their employers and will know the empowerment of the women's moment, child labor laws, family court commissioners, unions, and suing for a whole smorgasbord of bennies from good ole Uncle Sugar..

The USA is about to hit a major iceberg

But our leaders could care less..their personal fortunes and those of their patrons will be safe...they can always flee to one of their many villas in foreign lands..oops no such thing as foreign land to the global elite...

The bottom line for our traitors assembly is gettin' out the vote..

And given away the owners of the means of productions money to the unter menchen has always been the lefts stock in trade..just kinda sickening when this same screed is preached by the right..

imo

Lest we forget that the US taxpayer pays for free medical and in-state tuition to all illegals plus bestow citizenship on all children born of illegals in the US. Note the rising birthrates in just 3 states (courtesy of previous articles on FR). There's no reason for illegals to stop migrating.

Report: 41 Percent Of Births To Foreign-Born Mothers
AP ^

Immigrant mothers gave birth to 41 percent of the babies born in Denver in 2002, says a report by a group that favors limiting immigration.

The Center for Immigration Studies said nationally 23 percent of babies were born to foreign-born mothers. The 2002 figures are the latest available.

Immigrant mothers accounted for only 15 percent of the births in Denver and nationally in 1990. The share of births to immigrant mothers has at least doubled since 1990 in the populous Front Range counties.

The center's study said Colorado was fifth in percentage of births to illegal immigrants.

Dr. Richard Jones, 58, interim chief of obstetrics for the Denver Health citywide system of clinics, said he took classes at night after work to hone his Spanish-speaking skills.

"It doesn't matter where you are from," Jones said. "We'll take care of you and your baby."

Denver Health does not track the nationality of birth mothers, but officials said the cost of serving the uninsured is growing. Last year it totaled $285 million last year, up from $100 million in 1991, spokeswoman Bobbi Barrow said.

Denver Public Schools spokesman Mark Stevens said officials are prepared for the increase in immigrant children.

"Our role is to take kids where they are when we get them and move them forward," Stevens said. "That is something we are very used to dealing with here. We have programs and services in place. We've been at this business for quite a while. The numbers may change a little bit. Our job is to find the most talented teachers available who enjoy and see the benefits of working with that population."

Births by immigrant moms increasing (Kalifornia)
sacbee ^ | 7-8-05

Foreign-born mothers are delivering a record of number of children in the United States, with Central Valley families far ahead of the national average, a new report shows.

Politically charged and tactically timed, the analysis shows 46 percent of children born in California in 2002 had foreign-born mothers. This was twice the national average and considerably higher than it used to be.

Only 15 percent of Californians born in 1970, for instance, had immigrant moms. The increase in immigrant families since then touches schools, public health, housing and, not least, politics.

"America is headed into uncharted territory," Steve Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies, said Thursday. "We simply don't know how these children will assimilate - but it is clear that the stakes for America are enormous."

The Center for Immigration Studies takes a generally hard line on immigration issues and is injecting the new study into the Capitol Hill debate at a point when congressional intentions are still fluid.

Some of the findings amount to estimates, such as a calculation that illegal immigrant mothers give birth to 383,000 children annually in the United States. Other findings are tied directly to birth records, assigning numbers to what others have been observing.

"Especially, we're having trouble with teenage immigrant mothers," said Stephen Rico, president of the Madera Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. "These are legal ones and illegal ones, both."

32% of births in N.J. are to immigrant moms
NJ.com The Star Ledger ^ | July 8, 2005 | BRIAN DONOHUE

Nearly one-third of all births in New Jersey in 2002 were to immigrant mothers, the most ever, according to a new study that examines how the massive influx of immigrants is transforming communities and posing new challenges for the nation's education and health care systems.

"We've never been here before," said Steve Camarota, director of research for the Center for Immigration Studies, a Washington, D.C., think tank that conducted the study. "We're headed into uncharted territory in terms of the size of the second generation."

In New Jersey, immigrants make up 18 percent of the total population and accounted for 31.9 percent of all births in 2002, the study found. By comparison, just 9.6 percent of babies were born to foreign-born mothers in 1970.
