When they read the names of graduates in our Engineering class so they could receive their diplomas, and got to the "M's", it went like this:
"Omar Khalid Mohammed.......
Azul Quesi Mohammed.......
Fustah Mohammed Mohammed.......
Mohammed Mohammed Mohammed."
I kid you not.
Around 2002 or 2003, I was having a conversation with an Anglo-Pakistani guy at work, whom I know to be an observant Musselman. We were talking about all the "Moham[m]eds" on the [US Defense] project we were working on. I noted that "Moham[m]ed" was the most popular name in the world. He mentioned, I thought snidely, that Osama was overtaking it. I wished I had thought to say, "Adolf was popular in 1942."

Among Pakistanis, it is custom to name all the male children Mohammed. Their second name is used in daily use.
