Prosecutor: Karl Rove Not Target of Probe
NewsMax.com ^ | July 13, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Plamegate special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald had told top White House advisor Karl Rove that he's not a target of his investigation into who leaked the identity of CIA analyst Valerie Plame to columnist Robert Novak.

And Fitzgerald has also asked the top Bush aide not to discuss the case in public.

Speaking to National Review Online's Byron York late Tuesday, Rove attorney Robert Luskin said Fitzgerald "has told Rove he is not a 'target' of the investigation" - despite media reports suggesting otherwise.

Fitzgerald has also made it clear, however, that virtually anyone whose conduct falls within the scope of the investigation, including Rove, is considered a "subject" of the probe, Luskin told York.

"'Target' is something we all understand, a very alarming term," he added.

For two days straight, the White House press corps has obsessed over Rove's supposed guilt, pummeling Bush spokesman Scott McClellan with dozens of questions about the top Bush aide's role in the cse.

Former Reagan Justice Department official Mark Levin told York last night that Luskin's revelation made a big difference. "He is not a target, which is quite different from a subject," Levin said on his WABC radio show. "I know what a target is . . . the prosecutors are chasing you."

"If he's not a target, what the hell is the media up to" by making Rove the focus of their questions, Levin asked?

Luskin also told York that Rove has not spoken publicly, "because Fitzgerald specifically asked him not to."

Bingo.. I think Joe Wilson is the target of the investigation.

Judy Miller and NYT both know it.

The prosecutor should call a press conference and LIVE on TV tell the media that hey are a bunch of MORONS!.......

Well, Newsmax HAS been found NOT to be a credible source on more than one occasion in the 8 years I've been registered at FreeRepublic.

That said, I believe Rove will be found innocent of all charges.

The bozo on Fox, going on and on about not knowing what Rove told the GJ, not knowing if he lied, was a Dem operative, was he not? I got even more steamed at the anchor, Bob Sellars, going on and on about a case in which {{{"an undercover CIA operative was exposed"}}}. Now that is just a flatout lie coming from an anchor on Fox News.

He was about as "undercover" as was Valerie Plame. In other words, nada.

"I think Joe Wilson is the target of the investigation."

Hmmmmm, you think Wilson maybe involved in a some perjury and maybe a little obstruction of justice? I am wondering like Rush said yesterday if Judith Miller is hiding him as the source? How damaging would that be? Like Rush said, there may be a huge rope a dope going on here and the NYT is getting it's credibility neck in it.

not true. MSM is liberal, they just want him to quit. the MSM would never call for execution, they're "tolerant". they think he should just go home and stay out of politics.

Political execution, ie, total and complete personal destruction so that he would never surface again to be a threat. Karl Rove's sin of getting W elected twice is un-forgiveable. Therefore, he must be destroyed befor he can help anyone else to the top office. Theirs is the mission of a fanatic, like Theo Van Gogh's Muslim murderer. He saw a threat to Islam, The MSM sees a threat to liberalism. Same motive behind their actions. The MSM isn't so interested in Rove because of Bush, hell they know he can't run again, it's because of Rove's threat to their system of things.........

The media figures it has until October to rake Rove and Bush over the coals before the truth comes out. They figure they can do quite a bit of damage by then and that's all they care about.

Unfortunately for the media, when I tell people this, their reaction is "Yeah, we figured that". People are not as dumb as the media thinks they are.

Washington’s' insider couple compare to another couple who lie and defy facts, Yep! The Clintons.

Considering the nuclear subject matter, I consider them the Rosenbergs of our time, though Ethel never appeared in Vanity Fair while "fearing for her life" from the exposure the story was getting her.

I haven't seen anyone mention how those two even speculated as to who would play them in the movies, which I seem to recall them mentioning in that piece.

The prosecutor has been saying Rove is not the target all along, how long is it going to take for the MSM to report that one? If the President even suspends Rove based on the baseless Rats then they will say it's an admission of guilt. The Rats with the help of the MSM is trying to trap the administration in a catch 22, guilty or not, so it's wise that no one comments and if the MSM keeps harassing the administration they should have their press pass revoked for the whole station they work for.

...when the media speaks in unison, it is usually to create smoke...

I've been wondering the same thing. This Plame story is a total non-entity. The prosecutor is probably annoyed for having to investigate a lame political 'gotcha'.

But it's not like they would cover Berger in the first place. And the plea deal he got only helps smooth that over and keeps a potentially juicy trial off the scene.

The Dem/media monolith is clearly looking like a drunken flailing rope-a-dope victim, even if Rove isn't planning their demise in detail.
