Exploding Liberal Myths 10 The Plame Name Game
Mens News Daily ^ | July 13, 2005 | by Joe Mariani

Posted on 07/13/2005 7:06:10 AM PDT by stocksthatgoup

Once again, the Liberal media is trying to ramp up hysteria over the "outing" of Ambassador Joe Wilson's wife, CIA employee Valerie Plame. The problem with their frenzy is that there's no substance to the charge, once all the angry flailing and faux outrage are done with.....
In his 2004 book, Wilson revealed that "It was Saddam Hussein's information minister, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, often referred to in the Western press as 'Baghdad Bob,' who approached an official of the African nation of Niger in 1999 to discuss trade -- an overture the official saw as a possible effort to buy uranium." ................
....Apparently, Valerie Plame ceased to be a covert agent when her cover was blown years earlier. The CIA believed that Aldrich Ames evealed her role, along with many other operatives, to the KGB before his arrest in 1994...............
...What no one talks about is the reason Wilson was picked to go to Niger...... Plame wanted Wilson to investigate the British claim because of his vocal antipathy to President Bush and his staunch opposition to the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. He was sent not to gather evidence and form a conclusion, but because his conclusion was foreordained. Whoever sent him was attempting to exert an undue influence over America's foreign policy by sending someone who would ignore evidence contrary to his opinion.
Do we really want former secret agents playing political games to determine the outcomes of investigations before they're even begun? Investigations the outcomes of which may determine the nation's course in wartime?
Once again, Liberals and their pet Democrats have chosen the wrong hill to die on. While ignoring the real problem we narrowly avoided, they try to whip us into an attack on someone who, even if their accusations are true, commited no crime.

This paragraph is worth reading in full. It would be nice to know how much of this is fact and how much is guesswork. OTOH, it has a ring of truth.

"Apparently, Valerie Plame ceased to be a covert agent when her cover was blown years earlier. The CIA believed that Aldrich Ames (CIA agent/KGB spy/traitor) revealed her role, along with many other operatives, to the KGB before his arrest in 1994. Plame's former existence as a secret agent became little more than cocktail party chatter with which to thrill the uninitiated. Since her identity was not classified, not secret, and she had not been assigned to duty outside the US in the last five years, revealing her mundane desk job with the CIA was simply not a crime. Lots of people work for the CIA, after all."

I wonder what the difference is between "operative", "agent" and just plain "employee". I see the media often refers to Rove as a political "operative".

Liberals and the MSM are exhibiting their arrogance and deceptions to the American people.

They are exhibiting their rabid hatred for everything Bush and how their hatred totally blinds them to reality. Once again it's like the CBS forgery crap, they could care less that they lie, as long as they are attacking Bush.

Not only just try to fool us, but worse, BORE US TO DEATH! I'm astonished at the stupidity of the media. If anyone wants to know why they no longer have anyone's attention, they might consider: Out here in flyover country, we give very short shrift to ego maniacs in DC. You'd think that Valerie Plame twit was the most important person in DC. when in actuality, she was of less importance than a lowly file clerk.
What I'd like to know is when is the MSM going to do a good story on the best plumber in America? Air conditioning repairman? The people who really matter in making this country function.

LOL! With all the other things going on in the world - the fact that we have clearly just entered the first phase of the no-holds barred, undisguised onslaught of Islamic terrorism aimed at conquering the West, for example - the Dems and their press minions are obsessed by a non-issue and by their lust for political revenge. When are they going to get serious and realize that all of that is totally meaningless now, and we don't have the luxury of wasting time on it?

What with "campaign finance reform" and (in broadcasting) the actual licensing of journalism, First Amendment law is in a complete shambles.

Maybe Karl Rove should resign . . . and spend the next few years suing the socks off of the illegitimate Objective JournalismTM Establishment for insinuating that he had broken the law in blowing the whistle on the Plame/Wilson fraud.

Rove should claim that every dime spent promoting the fraudulent Plame/Wilson fairy tale is an undeclared campaign contribution to the Democratic Party. In attacking Republicans while claiming to be objective and promoting laws which violate the First Amendment rights of everyone outside of their illegitimate Establishment, journalism behaves as a single, corrupt, organization. One which should be hit with a RICO lawsuit for triple damages.

I wonder what the difference is between "operative", "agent" and just plain "employee". I see the media often refers to Rove as a political "operative".

As I recall, Novak used the term "operative" in his original column to describe Plame. He later stated (maybe in his follow-up column) that this is a general term that he uses and it was not meant to infer that Plame was a covert, undercover agent.

In CIA-talk "operative" could infer that she was employed by the "Operations" branch and those are the real spy-guys at the Agency. Since we know (or are at least fairly certain) that Plame was not working undercover at the CIA and had not been for quite some time, the MSM ranting about "outing a CIA undercover agent" is just so much baloney. They need to be called on it and called on it hard. They are using the old Clinton trick: just keep telling a lie over and over until it becomes the truth.

All of that has been printed and posted many times since Joe "RestoreHonesty" Wilson's lies about the yellowcake were revealed. I'm not recalling whether the "Ames" part is precise, but for years it had been well known in DC that Plame worked for CIA, and had her cover blown much earlier.

Right. Novak said "operative" but he just meant she worked there.

Then Wilson came out and said that his wife was a secret agent and that the administration had leaked this information to Novak.

Doesn't that make Wilson the source of the information? And how did Wilson know his wife was a covert CIA operative -- he didn't have clearance for that......

Its because they think they got the guy that kept their candidate out of the white house 2 elections running.

They are so obsessed with getting this guy they cannot see they are falling into the trap of "The Art of War"

Really? I'm guessing that he probably did have clearance for that. What was his clearance, and how do you know?

Plame's cover was actually blown twice. She had not been covert for nine years as she was outed by Aldrich Ames prior to 1994 and then again by the Cubans. She was assigned a desk job as an analyst at that time.

The identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame was compromised twice before her name appeared in a news column that triggered a federal illegal-disclosure investigation, U.S. officials say.

Mrs. Plame's identity as an undercover CIA officer was first disclosed to Russia in the mid-1990s by a Moscow spy, said officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. In a second compromise, officials said a more recent inadvertent disclosure resulted in references to Mrs. Plame in confidential documents sent by the CIA to the U.S. Interests Section of the Swiss Embassy in Havana.

The documents were supposed to be sealed from the Cuban government, but intelligence officials said the Cubans read the classified material and learned the secrets contained in them, the officials said.

Plame's cover was actually blown twice.

Thanks for the links. I consider the issue settled. Bill Gertz is not going to make a mistake on something this important.

Now how do we get the MSM to start telling the truth? To dream ...

From what I saw on TV last night, they are now going after McClellan, saying he lied to the public about Rove's involvement. Bill Press was trying to tie the whole thing in to the Iraq war, still spouting the garbage that Saddam did not seek yellow cake, when the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Butler Report both state that he in fact did and that Bush's "16 words" were not based on the forged documents. The info is at FactCheck.org

I still want to know who Judith Miller is protecting, it is certainly not Rove.

If the facts come out, the liberal media will have egg on their faces.

Problem: How will the facts come out?

(except for blogs, talk radio and conservative forums--which a lot of people don't even know about)

They never wash the egg off their faces -- not in public. They just forget the whole thing and go on to the next lie.

Who's to know?
