Supporters Still Want In-State Tuition For N.C. Illegal Immigrants
WRAL-TV ^ | July 14, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Supporters of offering illegal immigrants in-state tuition to North Carolina's public universities pledged Wednesday to keep fighting for the measure, offered by lawmakers in April with great expectations but defeated less than two months later without so much as a committee vote.

"We're going to keep working until we get it done," said former Gov. Jim Hunt, the highest profile supporter of the bill. "They will not outlast us."

Hunt and about 200 others gathered to review how the bill failed to move forward during this year's legislative session, with some meeting later to discuss their failed strategy.

The measure would have allowed illegal immigrants who attend state high schools for at least four consecutive years before graduation to pay in-state tuition at the state's public universities and community colleges. The teenagers also would have to apply for legal immigration status to receive the resident rate.

Supporters expected no more than 1,300 applications from such students and just a few hundred to enroll in the first year.

But opponents quickly rallied against the issue and inundated talk radio and the Internet with complaints about a bill they believed would legitimize illegal immigration. At least nine lawmakers backed out as sponsors in the face of the opposition.

The crumbling support and public opposition surprised supporters, said Andrea Bazan-Manson, executive director of El Pueblo, a Hispanic advocacy group that pushed for the legislation. They had prepared for six years to get the legislation in a position for possible approval, she said.

Walking back from the press conference following the bill's introduction, "I was already planning the bill signing with Gov. (Mike) Easley," Bazan-Manson said.

Instead, she and others on her staff, as well as bill sponsors, got a stream of intimidating threats that left some fearing for their safety...

"I'm for a governor of North Carolina declaring that all illegal immigrants are outlaws."

Truth be known, they are criminals if they have used or is using a counterfeit or stolen document to secure anything. It's the government officials who are violating federal immigration code by doing anything that would encourage an illegal alien's stay rather than seeking their prosecution/deportation; but then, you already know that....

I'd like to see the prosecution of Jim Hunt for doing just that.

I'm becoming increasingly convinced the United States is no longer a nation of law.

So much effort and hysteria for a few hundred.

That and other things. I will never forget that he spent his entire term as Lieutenant Governor campaigning for governor. My tax dollars paid for him to do something other than campaign activities.

Hey, here's a good idea. Let's give all law breakers instate tuition. Why limit it to illegal aliens?

:)

On another matter...

In 2004, protestors surrounded Karl Rove's home and pounded on windows. Guess what? This group is organized by the National People's Action. What do they address? Many things: housing, violence, guns, weapons, police brutality, amnesty, illegal immigrants... However why were they surrounding Karl Rove's home?

The Dream Act

--snip

The bill will grant residency to an unlimited number of illegal aliens who have completed high school in the U.S. and will require states to make illegal aliens eligible for subsidized in-state tuition.

NPA protests Karl Rove's Home"

According to the Washington Post: "Seems like he doesn't want to invite us in for tea," Emira Palacios quipped to the crowd. Others chanted, "Karl Rove ain't got no soul." The crowd then grew more aggressive, fanning around the three accessible sides of Rove's house, tracking him through the many windows, waving signs that read "Say Yes to DREAM" and pounding on the glass. At one point, Rove rushed to a window, pointed a finger and yelled something inaudible.

Palacios, trembling and in tears herself, said, "He is very offended because we dared to come here. We dared to come here because he dared to ignore us. I'm sorry we disturbed his children, but our children are disturbed every day. "He also said, 'Don't ever dare to come back,' " Palacios said. "We will, if he continues to ignore us."

And... NPA and WAND -- A Democrat Female PAC and body works on many issues with NPA.

I posted that comment to see if anybody else knew about the little used provision in North Carolina law that allows the governor to declare an individual an outlaw. Once that declaration is made, citizens can shoot those outlaws on sight.

And we oponents of instate tuition for illegal aliens are still opposed.

Our stance will cost zip-their stance will cost us a mint, while reducing instate slots for our own.

Hell No! Hell No!

How much sympathy do we owe to the illegal invaders of our country and state, who feel threatened when we merely resist their scheme to rape us?

All things considered, it is easy to read the actions of our dipsh*t governor as indication that he has aspirations for running for Presidente of Mexico.

If you're so measly
that you support Easely-
just slap your maw,
then slap your paw,
but,less gentily.

The damage is done,
the invaders have won-
Mexico rules,
compliments of us fools
represented by no one-
we're on our own.

"They will not outlast us."

I'll put my money on the Conservatives. The Libs are underestimating how upset same people are with these massive give-away programs, and the more time and programs, the madder the public will become. They WILL outlast the Lefties, and will definately outlast the governor.
