The government's apparently inability to effectively deal with terrorism will inevitably result in vigilantism. I'm not saying I think its right but vigilantes are inevitable if governments who keep avoiding dealing with the problem.

Certainly, but not the way they are going about it. Wars (and don't let anyone kid you we're in a war to the finish with these people) are won by convincing the other guy that to accept any peace offered. This isn't done by focus groups, police, or propaganda campaigns. Its done by thumping the hell out of the other guy. Don't listen to the Lefty-Libs, if we had really decided to after 9/11 we could have ended this war in 18 months.
