As Brits stiffen their upper lips and politicians hustle to reiterate that Islam is not the problem, cognitive dissonance grips the planet.
If Islam is not the problem, what is? And are we not inviting self-defeat by refusing to recognize that Islam is at least part of the problem?
Now that xenophobes are licking their chops, let me offer the requisite disclaimer. Most Muslims despise the barbaric tactics of radicals who have hijacked their religion in order to justify killing innocent civilians. The majority of Muslims don't deserve contempt from non-Muslims any more than infidels deserve "justice" administered by maniacs.

Based on what evidence? I'm sure that everyone that knew the The London Muslim Terrorists would have said the same thing. That they abhorred the violence and terrorist tactics and that their religion has been hijacked. Then the peace-loving, Elementary teaching, fun-loving, good-hearted Muslims left casually to kill the infidels in London.
Poverty, U.S imperialism/hegemony, George Bush, and the Zionist entity. < / leftist-victimologist mode >
Still looking for the surveys that prove this.
Islam is the problem. And the vast peaceful majority of Muslims that I keep hearing about are part of the problem too, as they do nothing to stop the mad murderers in their midst.
Another false solution. Waiting for the Muslims to clean house and eliminate the fanatics is simply delusional. It will never happen.
One percent is a lowball figure for the numbers of our committed enemies. Moreover, this kind of fanaticism and violence can be traced back to Muhammed himself, repeatedly manifested itself in 1,500 years of conquest and enslavement, and is embedded in their Holy Koran.
There is nothing good about Islam. Nothing. Evil and wicked cult.
At first, I thought this article was going to speak the truth, but then it veered off into the ditch containing all the other BS comments on Islam.
Moderate Muslims are apostates and religious Muslims are potential terrorists.
Islam cannot eliminate the cultic dementia of Islam without eliminating itself...and that ain't gonna happen
Still looking for the surveys that prove this.
Me too. The pro-terrorist left is trying to make this comment a truth by repeating it over and over again. Sadly, many on the right are echoing this unproven thought therefore weakening the fight against terror.
I too once believed that peaceful Muslims were outraged by terrorist acts in the name of Islam but my belief has weakened due to the lack of actual facts to support the claim.
Many of them are afraid of being murdered in their sleep by the terrorists.
Tell me, would you call the papers and the television stations and announce that you were going to publicly burn and destroy a Koran and then let them take pictures and footage identifying you to the terrorists?
Me neither. You and I both know that the police cannot protect us.
Most Muslims despise the barbaric tactics of radicals who have hijacked their religion in order to justify killing innocent civilians.
We need to remind these individuals then that silence is acquiescence. Evil will continue if the good remain silent.
The society that spawns terrorism must give tacit approval or the terrorism would cease.
"I too once believed that peaceful Muslims were outraged by terrorist acts in the name of Islam but my belief has weakened due to the lack of actual facts to support the claim."
After Israel, after NYC, after Beslan, after Bali, after Madrid, after London...the only one to elicit an apology, meagre "outrage" is London. Guess this was the victim they couldn't entirely "justify".
If I didn't have a family to worry about, I would. A couple of heads on pikes can do wonders for the resolve of would-be terrorists.
let me offer the requisite disclaimer. Most Muslims despise the barbaric tactics of radicals who have hijacked their religion in order to justify killing innocent civilians. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
The first paragraph asserting that cognitive dissonance is at the heart of the West's response to islamic terrorism immediately adopts it.
I think the malady is closer to insanity.
Clearly, the entire islamic community can't be totally deaf and dumb. But that's exactly how it behaves.
Occam's Razor rules.
Of couse the entire islamic community must be held accountable!
So only 1% of Muslims are considered "radical", huh? It's comforting to know that there are "only" about 12,000,000 potential mass murderers who hate everyone else out there. I feel that 1% is extremely low if you consider the number who pass through the madrassas in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan only, year after year after year.
Surveys prove squat. I lie to every survey I am caught in. Deliberately.
The only thing that can prove attitude is behavior. Total silence and non-response to murderous behavior is itself behavior.
One percent is a ridiculously low figure, more along the lines of what the muslims themselves would like us to believe. Reality suggests closer to twenty percent.
Which would not be a problem if the other 80% were normal. But they are not. Their support through silence and total non-response is 100% effective.
But even assuming the silly 1% figure, that adds up to 10 million nutcases worldwide out to kill you individually or in a group.
Not really reassuring.
These same people believe it is wrong for non-Muslims to insist that Muslims share guilt for the atrocities that are currently being perpetrated against non-Muslims the world over by Muslims.
One percent is a lowball figure for the numbers of our committed enemies
Even at that, with ~1B muzzies in the world, that leaves 10M
potential suicide bombers. That's too many to brush off as ONLY one percent.
As did I, up to about 1960 or so, when I was old enough to start asking questions and digging, historically speaking.
It did not take long to get a clear picture of Islam, even before the creation of the "palestinian" state (PLO), ostensibly the source of all grievances.
No rational person with more than a casual knowlege of islam and history can either "excuse" the murdering savage culture, nor care to "understand" it. Never mind reform it.
The only language that islam knows, respects, indeed fears, is ruthless and total destruction.
If muslims are really upset over islamic terrorism, violence, and oppression, wouldn't they be converting to a more civilized religion? Of course, leaving islam is punishable by death, according to the koran...It's the perfect religion for totalitarians.
The terrorists are the ones who have STUDIED Islam, and they do know that they are giving their life up for Islam.
Islam teaches how to become a martyr and this is what the terrorists believe that they are doing, and yes, they do read the Koran correctly.
Stop playing the part of a fool. There is no such thing as a moderate Muslim. If they believe in Islam and are muslims they do know about the benefits of terrorism, and what it takes to become a martyr. The plan of Islam is to take over the world. Bush, and Blair are not protecting their people from this evil game, and are letting them set up enemy camps in our own country. How can we prevail, when we are doing this?
The so called god of this world has a religion too.
He writes his scriptures and declares his truths.
His kingdom has a name, DEATH.
His wealth does not shine like gold. It is black and he provides it to his minions from the depths of his domain.
His gospel is submit or die
Terror his sacrament.
Destruction his dogma.
BELIEVE OR BE BEHEADED
His disciples are called martyrs.
They kill themselves upon decree.
Their reward is the same sentence they give to others.... DEATH!!
The end is the means in his kingdom.
death to all......
To that end, didn't the London muzzies hold some sort of mass anti-terror rally yesterday?
How many hundreds of thousands turned out for it, do we know?
I want some of these Mulims apologists to address this--
WHERE IS THE LOVE in Islam?
We see the hate in the news daily. Where is the loving side of the 'religion'? Where are the charity groups? The concerted efforts by 'good muslims' to reach out to other religions? Where are the Muslim/Jewish get togethers, so their children can learn tolerance of each other?
The face Islam presents the world is wrapped in black rags and it kills.
Where is Islams LOVING face? What is stopping grassroots groups from showing it to make the 'terrorist' aspect of Islam a lie?
Christianity: God sends His Son to die for your sins.
Islam: God wants you to send your son to die.
"Most Muslims despise the barbaric tactics of radicals who have hijacked their religion in order to justify killing innocent civilians."
Show me the facts that back up this statement. I can't post all the facts that show otherwise...it overload the internet, shut down all power grids and make the earth wobble on it's axis if I tried.
"Radical Islam" is a redundancy.
And yes, I've known and worked with a few 'nice' European Muslims.
But I never once forgot that they were Muslims.
"We are sorry that Israel forces us to attack sleeping children" is not going to cut it.
"How many hundreds of thousands turned out for it, do we know?"
Attendance was up from previous anti-terror rallies: I think there were 0.0000001 hundred thousand. There was one muslim woman but she could as a whole person.
But I never once forgot that they were Muslims.
This is an excellent point lost on most people.
My guess is that most of the "good" muslims I've met, socialized with and worked with never overtly or covertly suggested that they were muslim.
The few I can identify as muslim I discovered accidentally, or only after many years of knowing them.
This is wonderful news!
Allah simply must be credited with this miraculous change being affected in "hearts and minds."
Unless, of course, she was simply out looking for a nice falafel cart, since it was close to lunchtime.
Or looking for a loo...
In any event, Allah be praised!!
Yep. "Radical Islam is the real Islam. And those hip "backsliding" Muslims are very prone to getting a blood-cult booster shot at any time, and to "prove" their refound Islamic purity, going on bloody Jihad.
And you can bet that they have never for a moment forgotten that you were an infidel.
Muslims cannot be trusted, ever, to tell a non-Muslim the truth.
Zactly. Any survey that I have seen of muslim countries show that suicide missions have high approval and al-queda and its' cohorts have high support. If muslims in civilized countries closed down the mosques of the islamists, quit funding them and turned in the terrs, it would be a different story but it ain't happenin.
There is simply no justification for strapping a bomb on your back and walking onto a subway to take the lives of dozens of civilians. So I'm not satisfied that the "friends and neighbors" really understood the true horror of what the bombers did.
Along the same lines, I caught a fragment of a radio report this morning that mentioned that at a recent national convention of Baptists, the group decided to omit the name of Jesus Christ from their opening remarks. Too *controversial* for them, and possibly *offensive to others*, it seems....
I'm not sure which group or where yet, but I'm going to try to track it down Monday.
Where? Your link? I couldn't find it.
7th paragraf down, in the original Kathleen Parker article posted, above. It's in the material that was chopped off by the excerpting.
My link was to the ChristianExodus.org webpage, which KP's column described as follows:
For our second disclaimer, we note that Islam doesn't have a corner on fanaticism. Sometime next year, South Carolinians can look forward to an influx of "conservative Christians" who intend to migrate and saturate the state with voters whose aim is to replace the U.S. Constitution with the Ten Commandments. Or urge secession.
Leader Cory Burnell (christianexodus.org) has conceded that "People are going to call us crazy," and he's right. But so far, he's only urging that followers adhere to the Ten Commandments, which among other things forbids killing other people. When he starts urging teens to strap on bombs and blow up children, we'll get back to you.
Meanwhile, he's unlikely to have much effect as Americans even South Carolinians who, admittedly, have a higher-than-average threshold for eccentricity don't hesitate to call a wacko a wacko. "Sit down and shut up" rolls off the tongue in our self-correcting culture, especially when the targets are white Christians.
Okay...but that has nothing to do with the FSP. The FSP is in NH.
Only that they're following the *vote with your feet* precedent and methodology established by Jason Sorens and the NH FSP Porcupines, circa July 2001. [ Announcement: The Free State Project The Libertarian Enterprise, July 23, 2001. Or, so far as that goes, the Latter-Day Saints in Utah.
But there are several other thriving FSP spinoffs as well, including the Free West Alliance and the Free Wyoming Project. And there's a similar effort in Texas to restoring Texas sanity to a county or tri-county area there, as well.
Doesn't promoting this kind of thing without a mention of the FSP hurt the FSP, though? I would consider Christian Exodus if I didn't know about FSP, just as I would these other groups you mention.
Good for them....not my cup of tea. Hope to make the move to NH in two years...three tops. I'm already scannng the real estate....the prices are still very good compared to DC.
