Sen. Byrd Supporters Hijack Rival's Web Site
NewsMax ^ | 7/15/05 | Limbacher

If you decided Friday morning that you wanted to give your support to Rep. Shelly Moore Capito's run against Sen. Robert Byrd, and you went to her Web site, www.capito2006.com, you would have gotten a rude surprise:

You would be at Robert Byrd's re-election Web site.

That's because apparent GOP-hating hackers hijacked Capito's site and redirected the traffic to Byrd's Web Site.

Byrd's webmasters have fixed the problem, however, putting this message up in place of Capito's site:

At least someone who supports Byrd has decency.

Maybe this would be a good place to ask this question. I got a campaign letter from a guy named Hiram Lewis, who's running against KKK Bryd. If anybody from WV could tell me about this guy and if anybody is supporting him, I'd appreciate it. He looks good to me, but being from MD I don't know much about him. I'd like to send him some money but would like to hear other's opinions first.

"Byrd's webmasters have fixed the problem.."

I know this is a bit nitpicky, but Byrd's webmasters did not fix the problem. I am however surprised that they had the integrity to resist putting a link or a plug for Byrd's site in their work around.

Not a very elegant hack. They just replaced the main page with a framed page that leaves the main index on the domain name while having a frame source call up the byrd2006.com site.

Here's what it looks like:

<HTML>
<HEAD>
<TITLE></TITLE>
<meta name="keywords" content="'shelley capito', 'robert byrd', 'senator byrd',arch, moore, 'arch moore', thief, congress, senate, 'west virginia', byrd, shelley, capito, thief, crook, felon, felony, west, virginia, charleston, governor, senator, congresman, graft">
<meta name="description" content="">
</HEAD>
<FRAMESET ROWS="100%,*" FRAMEBORDER=NO FRAMESPACING=0 BORDER=0>
<FRAME SRC="http://www.byrd2006.com" NAME="redir_frame">
</FRAMESET>
<NOFRAMES>
Sorry, your browser does not support frames. Click <A HREF="http://www.byrd2006.com" TARGET=_top>here</A>
<BR><BR>Web redirection and dynamic DNS provided by <A href=http://www.no-ip.com/>www.no-ip.com</a>
<br><br>
</NOFRAMES>

Contrary to popular belief, we here in the south and appalachia actually do know what computers are and how to use them. Not that I would consider Robert Byrd a southerner at this point, just sayin' is all...

"The mountain fiddler actually has supporters who know what a compueter is?"

I honestly don't know if he was a fiddler, but he started his career as a butcher. Go figure.

From there, he moved up in the world when he joined the KKK. He was so good at it, he became head Cyclops or something. His fellow KKK members thought he was so great at his job, they channeled him into politics. What a great resume.

I'm not from WV, but I do know he ran for AG and almost pulled off an upset.

Former gulf war veteran, young guy, has name recognition, a bit inexperienced, his strategy appears to be a "respectful" and humble campaign to "retire" Byrd and move WV towards the future.

His AG race shocked alot of people due to how close it was, he is trying to strike while the iron is hot, but I'm not optimistic for him.
