By e-mail, Rove told Bush adviser of interview

WASHINGTON - After mentioning a CIA operative to a reporter, Bush confidant Karl Rove alerted the president's No. 2 security adviser about the interview and said he tried to steer the journalist away from allegations the operative's husband was making about faulty Iraq intelligence.

The July 11, 2003, e-mail between Rove and then-Deputy National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley is the first showing an intelligence official knew Rove had talked to Matthew Cooper before the Time magazine reporter wrote an article identifying Valerie Plame as a CIA officer.

"I didn't take the bait," Rove wrote in an e-mail obtained by the Associated Press, recounting how Cooper tried to question him about whether President Bush had been hurt by the new allegations.

The White House turned the e-mail over to prosecutors, and Rove testified to a grand jury about it last year.

Earlier in the week before the e-mail, Plame's husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, had written a newspaper opinion piece accusing the Bush administration of twisting prewar intelligence, including a "highly doubtful" report that Iraq bought nuclear materials from Niger.

"Matt Cooper called to give me a heads-up that he's got a welfare reform story coming," Rove wrote in the e-mail.

Earlier in the week before the e-mail, Plame's husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, had written a newspaper opinion piece accusing the Bush administration of twisting prewar intelligence, including a "highly doubtful" report that Iraq bought nuclear materials from Niger.

This is an outright lie. The Bush administration never said that Iraq bought nuclear materials from Niger. In the "16 Words", Bush said that British intelligence had learned that Iraqi agents had sought to buy nuclear materials from Africa. Joe Wilson reported that Iraqi agents had attempted to buy nuclear materials from Niger, providing evidence that the British reports upon which President Bush relied were accurate.

The MSM has done nothing more to undermine their own credibility as they have on this story.

Very closely related story already posted on FR. The earlier story did not have the factually inaccurate statement I highlighted.

Is Yoda writing the headlines for AP now? This one is almost as bad as:

In their dreams. The Left and the MSM still can't point to any improper Rove did, except to confirm a story. That's hardly a capital crime, let alone an ethics offense.

Compare two national security stories from the past two years and how they have been reported. There's this story, breathlessly reported as Karl Rove injuring national security because he "outed" a CIA operative, who it turns out was known by her friends, acquaintances and others as working for the CIA.

Compare it to the "Sandy Burglar" story ... no MSM outrage, even though Burglar was stealing documents to change the official position of the Clinton admin relative to terrorism response. He was stuffing them down his pants and former president you-know-who just laughed and said, oh that's just Sandy being Sandy. Thank you MSM for defining hypocrisy for all to see.

"MSM still can't point to any improper Rove did"

This is interesting because:

1. Rove knew what they were up to, i.e. screw him over.

2.Immediately contacted White House counsel to alert them.

I was right. He saw their game and set a trap for fools, which filled up very quickly.

How many heads does this guy have on his wall?

Regards,

From the NY Post:
Rove again was by Bush's side yesterday in a show of presidential support on a trip to North Carolina, where Rove puckishly took a bottle of Tylenol PM from a reporter's knapsack and said the reporter looked as if he needed it.
LOL! Love that guy.

What strikes me in all this is just how sleazy the press it. Now I know that already but this gives me a window into their world. One example, Cooper's Time Magazine article which indicates that Administration officials are calling reporters, smearing Wilson, when the truth is the reporters are calling. It's just disgraceful, but it won't be covered by the media of course.

Karl Rove injuring national security because he "outed" a CIA operative,

I think Joe Wilson endangered the lives of Americans,
especially those who were overseas and those in the military,
by telling the world that Bush lied in order to get us to Iraq.

Joe wrote an op-ed and lied --
Didn't care if Americans died --
He sat on his tush
As he undermined Bush
And pretended his wife was "inside.".

It now appears that Rove did his job superbly. . . not that that matters to the MSM. They demanded this investigation and now don't like the results: Rove is right and the journalists are all passing around rumors. This NYTliesgate is not worth our time. . . like everything else distributed by the rag.

You know, if the Bush Administration had REALLY wanted to trash Valerie Plame for Jerkwad Joe's lies and distortions about Iraq, they would have just leaked her personnel file to the media, and if she had any criminal convictions in her past, made damn sure that it got lots of airplay.

Oops. That's exactly what Clintonista Kenneth Bacon, former Pentagon "spokesperson" did to Linda Tripp back when Billigula was caught with this pants down.

Of course Bacon only had to issue a vague "apology", no investigation, no indictment, no grand jury, no outrage at all from our vaunted Lamestream Media.

Double standard? What double standard?

an e-mail obtained by the Associated Press,.....

"The White House turned the e-mail over to prosecutors, and Rove testified to a grand jury about it last year. "

If the WH turned the email over to prosecutors and Rove testified to the GJ, and GJ's are secret (supposed to be), I'm curious as to how "AP obtained the e-mail". I doubt the SP gave it to them and why would Rove or Hadley?

Speaking of double standards, what would the MSM be saying about a Republican who had held the equivalent of Schumer's press conference Thursday with Joe Wilson. We now know that, probably simultaneously, "a source with knowledge of the investigation (read: Rove's lawyer), was giving information to the NY Times which totally revealed how shallow and vindictive Schumer and Wilson's charges are.

If a Republican did something so stupid, the MSM would be flaying him for his "partisan tactics" and guffawing at how he'd been made a fool of.

Same ole MSM...they'll never change.

I'm looking at it differently. The MSM is doing us a favor by exposing the rats for the extremist they are....They can't deny their comments when they've been taped and spread across the nation for all to record and hear.

Agreed. I'm simply pointing out the way they would have lampooooooned a GOP congressman for jumping the gun with such exquisite timing.
