LIMO-RIDING DURST GOES OUT IN STYLE (cross-dresser freed--dismembered victim--wife missing)
NY POST ^ | July 16, 2005 | SAM GUSTIN, LESLIE T. SNADOWKSY and LUKAS I. ALPERT

Posted on 07/16/2005 3:40:24 AM PDT by Liz

Cross-dressing killer Robert Durst was freed from a NJ federal prison yesterday.........

The wildly eccentric Durst, 62-year-old heir to the Durst real-estate empire in NY and the serial suspect in a string of violent crimes, walked out of the federal pen....hopped into a black limo and was driven to Philadelphia International Airport for a first-class flight.

After leaving the lockup, Durst's driver attempted to elude reporters by speeding along small back roads in South Jersey before stopping at a rest station on the outskirts of Philadelphia.

There, a frail and haggard Durst used a McDonald's restroom..........he appeared startled to see a photographer and would not reply to a reporter's questions.

Durst had been in the prison since January for taking guns across state lines after he jumped bail while awaiting trial in Texas. He was charged there in the 2001 killing and dismemberment of Morris Black in Galveston.

Durst had moved to the coastal Texas city the year before — posing as a deaf, mute woman while a suspect in another California murder.

Durst admitted killing Black and chopping up his body but claimed it was in self-defense. He jumped bail before the trial began, and six weeks later he was picked up after trying to steal a chicken sandwich in Bath, Pa. — with his hair and eyebrows shaved, carrying two guns and $38,000.

.........Durst was returned to Texas to face trial in the slaying of Morris — where the jury stunned the world by accepting Durst's self-defense plea and acquitting him outright of the murder.

He was convicted of jumping bail and tampering with evidence..............

Durst has long been suspected of having a hand in wife Kathleen's disappearance in 1982......also suspected of involvement in the killing of Kathleen's best friend, Susan Berman, in Los Angeles in 2000.........

Classic line from one of the Durst jurors:

"I didn't think you could have a case without the head. I thought you needed the whole body."

source.

He lives in Houston now, in very upscale digs. We know what he looks like , unless he changes genders or gets cosmetic surgery, of course.

UPID JURORS!

Juror Robbie Clarac: "We looked at the flight thing, but flight is something Durst has done his entire life."

Juror Deborah Warren: "I didn't think you could have a case without the head. I thought you needed the whole body."

Well darn....now we get to the "devil's in the details" part. Tell you what, I'll cast the big net for a good one & you make sure she's for real.

At first glance, she looks/sounds good.

A little digging, and I can't tell if she is pro-life. She is a Democrat on her official web site. She does lots of stuff for kids.

Maybe we should ask her?

Wildly eccentric? This guy should be certified as criminally insane and taken off the streets.

Riiiiight! The guy might still be alive with his body wandering around looking for his head.

There is something wrong with the system when a guy like this gets on a jury.

If she is pro-life, that fact that didn't leave a paper trail would be good for candidates getting the third degree ---AKA Judiciary Committee hearings.

Actually what money and good lawyers buy you is freedom, a 'favorable' jury and the protection of the Constitution on double jeopardy.

Since he is a transvestite and dresses like a woman, in this age of AIDS there's just one more danger in bars instead of behind them.

She may be African-American too based on one of the listed affiliations & I mention this only because I envision several exploding heads on capital hill if GWB nominated:
1) A highly qualified woman
2) who was in her early 40s
3) from TEXAS
4) was a registered Democrat
5) who was African American

Why would anyone with $38,000 in his pocket draw attention to himself by stealing a chicken sandwich?

Maybe he thought the sandwich was going to cost $40,000
