A remarkable 5,619 players signed up for the legendary $10,000 buy-in main event, which began on July 7. At 7 am July 16, a new champion was crowned: Joseph Hachem from Melbourne, Australia. You must be either kidding or foolish. The payout for a top 20 finish is at least $300,000; why would one avoid putting up $10k to earn $300k?

Maybe it's not as easy as you think?

Because I normally come in the top ten in most multi table tournaments I enter. I win an average of five single tables a day when I do the internet. Its a matter of hand selection, skill and patience and listening to Kenny Rogers.

Thats all well and good. But playing against 100 people is far different than playing against nearly 6,000 over 7 days.

You know, when you are at the actual table, you don't get to see your opponents cards, right? :P

I know that, lol. I prefer live games over the internet. Phoenix 5 casinos relatively nearby that has poker, a couple of them have regular tourneys.

I wish we could edit post for grammatical errors. I meant to say I prefer REAL life games over the internet and Phoenix has 5 casinos relatively nearby that has live poker and tournaments.

Looks like a lot of big names finished out of the money. The defending champ did pretty well. It seems like Phil Helmuth had a pathetic series. Only 1 top ten in a rather minor event.
