Police Say Suicidal Woman Caused Crash That Killed Three Musicians

SKOKIE, Ill. (AP) - A woman who said she "wanted to end it all" is accused of deliberately causing a high-speed crash that killed three Chicago rock musicians, authorities said. Jeannette Sliwinski, 23, was charged with first-degree murder and was being held under guard at a hospital after she was denied bond Friday. Sliwinski, of Morton Grove, allegedly told investigators that she had been in a fight with her mother before the crash and wanted to take her own life.

"She said she wanted to end it all when she ran into the back of the car," said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Colleen Daly, adding that prosecutors might seek the death penalty.

Police said Sliwinski was driving at least 70 mph and had run three red lights when her car rammed the musicians' car at an intersection in this northern Chicago suburb Thursday.

The victims were identified as Michael Dahlquist, 39, John Glick, 35, and Douglas Meis, 29, all of Chicago. Officers said the three were on their lunch break from their day jobs at an audio equipment manufacturer and were stopped at a red light when their car was struck from behind.

Skokie police said both cars were flipped over by the impact of the crash, and the musicians' car struck another vehicle, causing two injuries.

Friends and family members said Friday that Dahlquist, who moved to Chicago from Washington state five years ago, was the drummer for a band called Silkworm. Glick, a Boston native, was a guitarist and singer with the Returnables, while Meis played drums with Glick's wife, Rebecca Crawford, in a band called The Dials.

"They were people who were so smart and brilliant and amazing," Crawford said. "Everyone feels cheated that they haven't been able to accomplish what they set out to do."

Was there no tree or telephone pole nearby for her to ram, instead? What a loser.

Car manufacturer's fault?

Another disturbing example of the fact that no matter how good a driver you are, you are at the mercy of idiots when you take to the road. No defensive driving course in the world would have done the victims any good.

Life without parole would be better than the death penalty for this egotistical, self centered person.

I hate suicides. They are self-obsessed ***holes, who either take other people with them or ruin the lives of those they leave behind (frequently because they have left a suicide note blaming these unfortunate folks for all their problems). No sympathy from me.

If she thought her life sucked before, she is in for a rude awakening.

In SW Colorado a few years ago, there was a lady who wanted to kill herself, so she put her kids in the car and waited till she saw a trucker coming down the highway and ran out in front of him from a side road. Killed the kids and the trucker.

It's her mother's fault - or maybe President Bush or Karl Rove are responsible for this. Surely, it isn't the girl's fault, she's just a victim......NOT!

This occurred not far from my home. My son and I drove right past that intersection after she crashed her car and killed the three young men. Why this selfish, stupid fool didn't just crash into a brick wall, a tree, or drive into the river is a sign of just how thoroughly self-centered we have become. Watch the mental health leeches claim that she didn't know what she was doing. May she get the book thrown at her!

Is Michael Dahlquist related to speaker designer John Dahlquist?

It's not a very common name, but it is well-known in audio.

That's because the people who take down other people with them don't have the guts to committ suicide themselves, and are therefore killers, no different than the stupid Islamo-fascist "suicide" bombers.

Indeed. . .I'll bet she was wearing a seat-belt and that is why she survived. . .that and an airbag.

Self-centered evil woman. . .killing others and ruining how many lives just because she was upset at her mama. . .sheesh. . .

Looks like someone is going to be gang raped in prision. They want to use the death penalty, so I guess that she will get her wish.

>>Life without parole would be better than the death penalty for this egotistical, self centered person.<<

She is 23, which means if she does get life without parole, she is going to be in there for a VEEERRRRYYY long time. Probably deserves it too. Or she can get out after 40 years, age 63, doesn't know anyone. Everyone she ever knew is dead or long gone, her life has been wasted, she never accomplished anything. A total waste of a life.

She deserves immediate death or life in prison.

Immediate death? Nah that would bee too kind. Why give her what she wanted without having to pay for what she did? Let her be convicted, sentanced to death, and then spend 20 years appealing, knowing that she probably wont prevent it, and spend the rest of her life realizing that she is going to die.
