Throughout the fall, I will be posting numerous updates on these two races, given the fact that they are the only high profile races this year, but also because they provide an excellent indication of what will happen next year.
In Virginia, all the polls have Jerry Kilgore, the former Attorney General, leading Tim Kaine, the Lieutenant Governor, by 7-10 points. While the incumbent Democrat, Mark Warner, is fairly popular, there is no indication that it is helping Kaine. In 2001, Warner narrowly defeated the Republican nominee in spite of the fact that the Virginia GOP was divided. Kilgore seems to have united the Party and is facing the fall campaign confident of victory.
This race is probably the most important race this fall. First, Republicans are looking to complete their takeover of the South. Switching Virginia into the GOP column would leave Democrats with only a handful of Gubernatorial chairs in the South (North Carolina, Tennessee, and Louisiana)...

In the very long run, I think the most important governor's race will be right here in OHIO, because if Blackwell wins (and does well, as I think he will), he will be a MAJOR player for the presidency quite soon. He could be the USA's first black president.

I would take Kasich too....
Not at all. He's leading in all polls among Republicans---by a pretty good margin---and most people don't even know what this "scandal" is. Blackwell's only problem at this point is $$.
We need Kasich to run against DeWine or Voino. Blackwell MUST be supported for Gov. He's an up and comer, and absolutely perfect on the social and economic issues.
I would think the Auditor and Attorney General (who are also running) would have more exposure to the Taft scandals than the Secretary of State, just by virtue of their positions.
Kasich for Senate. Blackwell for Governor.

I don't think I have watched his show more than a dozen times. I will ask my parents who have watched it all the time...
I like Blackwell too, but he will have a lot of work to do in northeast Ohio, where the MSM tries to demonize him at every turn. You never see Blackwell's name in the Cleveland or Akron papers without the word "controversial" in the same sentence. Hopefully Blackwell will have enough support in Columbus, Cincinnati, and rural Ohio to offset northeast Ohio.
The dimwits still have a govenorship here in GA. Sonny Perdue may have recently put an R behind his name but he is still a democrat at heart. I just hope the Republicans find someone to run against him next year, or I am fairly certain the democrats will again recapture Georgia. I for one will never again vote for Purdue, I may not vote for the democrat, but I will NOT vote for him.
