"Tell that to Tony Martin."
Lets not get into that one again but, suffice to say, I'm not sure there are many jurisdictions in the US where shooting someone in the back as they are running away from your property would be considered legal.
Where did you get that? None of the liberal press reports I saw say anything about that. Mostly they say that the criminals were shot in the process of burgling Martin's home.
Iam sure you are right, San Francisco, New York, Washington DC, to name some. But what if the person fleeing was a killer or child molester and would in fact do it again if they got free? Makes you wonder how nice we should be to criminals. (Now if the person running was not known to be a criminal that is another thing entirely.

Here'a a basic summary:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Martin_(farmer)
"Martin opened fire three times on the two burglars as they attempted to flee, killing the youth, who was shot in the back, and injuring the older man"
If you want a case to use to criticise British self defense laws, there are a lot better candidates than this one.
I just wonder how PC George Dixon would feel serving with the Sun Hill Sociopaths
It really is.
Ask that guy...Tony Martin? And countless others. In fact, if you defend yourself from an attacker who has forced his way into your home, he becomes the primary witness against you and if you ever get to the end of your sentence he'll be notified of your release and given an opportunity to argue against such a release of a dangerous citizen into society.
DIfferent story than here - you mys be readting the robbers (not burgulars, robbers)side. http://www.tonymartinsupportgroup.org
