The jihad of southern Thailand was planned in northern Pakistan
Thaksin Shinawatra, the Thai prime minister, has armed himself with emergency powers to tackle the upsurge in violence in Thailands southern provinces this month. And here too, the role of Pakistans madrassas and terrorist camps stands out.
Karachis reputation as a training camp of international terrorists has been revealed: not only have the Indonesian bombers been facilitated here, but also hundreds of Pattanis of Thailand. The future map of Thailand was said to have been decided at Multan Road in Lahore by the jihadi leaders that President Musharraf presumably referred to while talking to the policemen. [DT]
I don't know how accurate the information is, but the danger will be at the most when, a link of network in South Asia and South East Asia becomes reality, which the JI expands its role within South Asia. India should be aware of JI. This group is the second largest netowrk in my oppinion next to Al Qaida network.

They are being helped along by the incompetence and corruption of the Thai government, which is hated in the deep south of the country for more than just religious reasons.
Enter China

Well, seacapn, I have to disagree with you on a couple of levels. I have lived in Thailand for a spell and have been visiting since the 80's.
A problem with modern Liberalism is that there is no in-betweens; if a country or place or initiative isn't perfect, then it sucks and is not worth pursuing if it can't be an instant Utopia... Thaksin is immeasurably better than other recent Thai leaders because he has balls to change things and he has proven himself to be a very successful businessman, which at this point in time is just what Thailand needs. Sure, he is dictatorial and thin-skinned, but corruption and incompetence isn't going to disappear in SE Asia overnight.
I have spoken to scores of Thais from all over Thailand about the South, and if you gave them a secret ballot, I bet that 90% of them would vote to blow all the Muslims in the South off the face of the planet. Full stop.
Of course, you can't believe anything you read in the MSM about the South, including The Nation & Bangkok Post; they have their own home-grown leftist, anti-business, anti-everything commies on staff, plus they are aided by the same types of foreign journalists - now there's a huge surprise!
I hope Thaksin cleans this up now.
