Operation Rescue Supports Bush’s Choice of John G. Roberts for US Supreme Court

Washington DC – President George W. Bush has chosen John G. Roberts to succeed Sandra Day O’Connor to the US Supreme Court. Operation Rescue supports this selection.

Roberts has shown strong conservative credentials with indications that he will not uphold Roe v. Wade, the 1973 case that decriminalized abortion. Roberts coauthored a 1990 legal brief that stated, “The court’s conclusion in Roe that there is a fundamental right to an abortion … finds no support in the text, structure or history of the Constitution.”

“A culture of life can never be built as long as Roe v. Wade is the law of the land,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

“We appreciate President Bush being a man of his word by appointing a judge that will respect the Right to Life acknowledged by our nation’s founding documents,” said Newman. “We pray that Roberts will be swiftly confirmed.”

“Our nation has suffered enough under decades of liberal activist judges legislating from the bench,” said OR spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. “After 45 million dead children, we are guardedly optimistic that the confirmation of Judge Roberts will be a step toward restoring protections for the pre-born that were stolen from them in 1973.”

I don't think he is going to be easily approved by Congress. Durbin and company will try to nix him.

“Our nation has suffered enough under decades of liberal activist judges legislating from the bench,”

Hopefully Roberts will be a different breed, but only time will tell.

Bush has nominated another lawyer to that branch of government that has given us the previously unknown right of privacy under which perversity and evil have now been sanctioned.

Roberts gets a job for life, can rule as he wants without answering to anyone, and gets paid well. It's a job made for a saint, and men aren't saints.

What do we get in return? Hope is what we get.

We all hope that he'll do a decent job, and not continue to turn this country into a socialist state as the liberal SC judges are trying to do.

But, one has to ask, in a free republic should the people have to base their government on hope?

What difference is there between the people of a republic hoping its newest judge will "do the right thing", and the subjects of a monarchy hoping its newest king will also do the right thing?

It's better to consider the man himself than any statements he may have made years ago.

People change their minds, say things they've regretted...

Already saw some liberal kook dike on MSNBC call John Roberts the "Eric Rudolph nominee".

Just disgusting.

From what I've read on related threads, Roberts is well-liked by both parties in D.C. and won't tolerate any games or personal attacks.

I certainly hope so. But Shumann (is that correct spelling?) went on FOX immediately after the announcement with all of his reservations and a long list of questions he wanted answered. Questions that Judge Roberts reportedly will not answer.
