They tried to shut down the rod&gun club at Wright-Patterson AFB years ago. So they did a study and found more lead in the ground water upstream from the free fall zone than downstream. The study was burried and the club still exists. However, they opened the Wright Brothers/Paul Lawrence Dunbar National Park and the access road to the Huffman Prairie hanger runs past the end of the target area, so they have shut down occasionally.

Yeah, I noticed that stupid bit about anti-tank weapons too.

As far as I know, you have to go the Ukraine to do that.

If you ever wanted to drive and fire the gun on a T-72, launch some mortars, fire an RPG or other anti-tank weapon, or basically shoot any weapon in the Ukrainian arsenal, you are more than welcome to do so. The money you pay for the privelege goes to support the Ukrainian army (our allies in the war on terror).

>> how do starfires rate

Never heard of them.

I carry hollow points in summer and jacketed in winter, should I have the need to carry.

Don't place too much faith in the ammo, hit the target.

Two taps center of mass, and two more on the way down; should you ever reach that point of necessity.

Actually the pollution on military bases is not only in the rifle ranges backstop area but also the explosive ordnance ranges & various maint.shops were highly toxic solvents were regularly used for parts cleaning. Also bear in mind that some of the de-milled military posts were from prior to WW2 & also have asbestos all over the place in the various structures & during the "good old Days " Chemical warfare training was taught with small amounts of real chemical agents such as mustard gas & lewisite . Would you want to invest in such a peice of real estate? Imagine the lawsuits from the next of kin of some one who while using a roto-tiller in the back yard runs over a WW2 vintage 82mm white phosphorus mortar round & the round does what it was originally designed to do .

When the gun club reclaims the lead their is no problem and this type of lead does not leach out very easily.

And just where does that money come from. It doesn't take a braintrust to figure out this will shut every sporting clays, skeet and trap range it is applied to.

The sticky bomb was explosives inside a sock and then coated in axle grease to make it adhere to what ever you put it on.

I can imagine having some fun with that. ;-)

You would nut believe the money the local gun club made off reclaiming spent lead. Big bucksthey were able to upgrade the property and pay for the reclaimation with out up front money.

One of the indoor clubs I belong to makes a ton of money off lead. However that doesn't apply to an outdoor shooting range especially sporting clay, trap and skeet. The dirt work would negate any profit. It would be prohibitively expensive.

Something else I just thought of. Why should law-abiding gun owners always play defense? Why can't we go on offense and get NFA 1934 and GCA 1968 overturned in the courts as a violation of our constitutional rights? In my humble opinion both laws violate the Second Amendment to the Constitution. My "pursuit of happiness" is guns, so any law that restricts my pursuit of happiness should be unconstitutional.

But what do I know? I'm just a dumb old gun-toting knuckle-dragging redneck, according to the swishy tea-sipping gun-grabbers.

If the water is at all acidic, as most rain water is, you will be able to dissolve enough lead over time to be dangerous.

Thanks for your question. This EPA website gives a good basic explanation with lots of graphics.
http://www.epa.gov/ozone/science/unepSciQandA.pdf
Basically, CFCs are carried up into the stratosphere by air motion. There they are bombarded by ultraviolet rays and changed to reactive halogen gases which cause ozone depletion.
Go this website and scroll down to the page that explains how heavier-than-air CFCs are carried upward to the stratosphere. Above the stratosphere, gravity does separate heavy gas atoms from lighter ones.

Gun owners have to do something proactive to protet their constitutional rights = something legal.

Recruiting anti-gunners as bullet catchers on a gun range probably won't go over too well, regardless of how pleasant the thought.

The NRA and other gun lobbies have to become more litigiusly imaginative and innovative.

"The NRA and other gun lobbies have to become more litigiusly imaginative and innovative."

You are right. Unfortunately, for some years a few folks high up in the NRA had the "can't we all just get along" attitude. And all that time our gun-grabbing enemies had their lobbyists and lawyers working overtime.

One of the best things was having Chuck Heston as the spokesman for the NRA in recent years. He's the reason I renewed my membership after a lapse. Wayne LaPierre doesn't seem afraid to take on the gun-grabbers, and Sandra Froman is a top-notch legal mind, from what I understand. Maybe we are seeing the gun rights movement take off like never before. I hope so.

BTW, I would love to have seen the looks on the faces of Schumer, Kerry, Clinton, Kennedy, and Feinstein if President Bush had nominated Sandra Froman to the Supreme Court!

So I wonder why ground level ozone isn't carried up there as well to renew the ozone layer.

Go to the website. It has good explanations of most questions you can think of. There's a lot less ozone near the Earth than in the stratosphere.
