Under federal law, all teachers must be highly qualified in their field. Otherwise, they cannot teach any longer. The process will be complete within a year. This is every state.

Dear SALChamps03,

"Under federal law, all teachers must be highly qualified in their field. Otherwise, they cannot teach any longer. The process will be complete within a year. This is every state."

I believe that practically speaking, that means that a teacher must not openly drool while teaching. Vast numbers of public school teachers are incompetent. A federal law is not going to change that.

Sorry .. I don't buy it .. just because someone has the "qualifications" doesn't mean they are a good teacher. Also - unfortunately for teachers they just aren't allowed to teach.

Someone said earlier that there is so much wasted time in school - and there is.. honestly sit down and TALK to some kids about what it going on... it's really very sad. There's so much time spent on the whole concept of "social skills" that there is very little time left for the kids to learn.

Depends on your definition of "highly qualified". Here's the out the schools will be taking - The law allows the sd to provide an alternate method (HOUSSE) for experienced teachers to demonstrate subject-matter competency that recognizes, among other things, the experience, expertise, and professional training garnered over time in the profession.

In other words, teachers are going to rate teachers. You think one NEA member is going to fail another ? Fat chance.
