Roseanna, I'm so sorry. They give us so much....thoughts with you.
I am so sorry for your loss. My hubby and I had a German Shorthaired Pointer too. Jake lived to be 17. We lost him 8 years ago but had him cremated and he sits on top of our entertainment center, in a small walnut wood urn. He was the best dog.
I know you will grieve for Sparky forever but will also be forever grateful for the love you shared over the past 15 years.
Thank you for posting the pix.. what a loving face & warm expression. awe.... sniff, sniff
very touching & Insightful young man. thanks for sharing this story.
Sparky is beautiful. My heart goes out to you and I know the pain you feel.
I sometimes pray that God will have our beloved pets in Heaven, they give us so much love.
Thanks for pinging me Hair Of The Dog!
As Tom T. Hall has the old black man say in the song "Watermelon Wine":
the only things worth a single solitary dime
are old dogs and children and watermelon wine.
Oh you give me hope.
My old tomcat, Cody, just turned 18 years old.
I thank God everyday that he is as healthy as he was 10 years ago.
23 years is quite an accomplishment.
My sincerest condolences, my dear.
Your eulogy brought tears to my eyes. He looks like a real sweetheart.
You sure were blessed to have him for the time God allowed.
Me, too.
You must do it and I'll tell you why. Many years ago I had a Bedlington Terrior who had to be put to sleep.
I walked around crying, couldn't take her and finally had a neighbor, who was almost a stranger to her, take her to be put down! I never got over that and hated myself for not taking her myself.
Years later my precious 'Potlatch' was 15 years old and had to be put to sleep. I took him, leaned over the table and held him and put my face right up to his and talked to him while he got the shot.
The Vet was even crying when I left but I did the right thing and am so glad of it.
Now I have Piper, a year old Yorkie, to love while I have him.
Our Misty is there. I hope there are cars for her to "herd". Failing that, some sheep or cows would probably do, letting her exercise the instincts she she never got to exercise in life.
I was running for Gov. of CA when I was poisoned by a squirrel and now I am the "Boss" of Rainbow Bridge.
I always take special care of FReepets. Sparky is in good hands and has lots of company.
Weinie
I had a female Schnauzer that I had to put to sleep. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I still think about that dog.
I completely understand how you are feeling now. I have had to do it too and it is so hard to do. I know there will be more times yet because I will never be without dog friends. They are true friends and they love us unconditionally. God Bless you for loving Sparky.
Today the faithful dog of fifteen years of our owners was memorialized in a collection of photos of dog and family over the years.
They said the dog had recurring cancerous lymph nodes and was gracious in death.
A poem they included indicated what we see in those close to us, what they communicate and expect.
I hand water the grapes.
That's lovely Phil. Like people we loved, our lost pets take parts of our heart with them when they go.
I am so sorry SmartA, I'm behind on posts and missing some. I love the Schnauzers, they are beautiful dogs and I know well how you feel.
I have so many friends who won't get another dog because of the pain of losing them.
I don't want to ever go through that again with a dog.
If I would be watching TV, she would come and lay down on my foot and go to sleep. She would follow me all over the house just to be close. Good tempered. Wouldn't snap or growl. To us, she was one of a kind.
They all are SmartA, one of a kind, every one of them. Our kids are grown and Piper is our 'baby' right now. We get so much pleasure from him.
I'm heading for bed, see you tomorrow.
18 is getting up there...
If he is an indoor cat he will live longer. Go to the vet often and watch his weight. My cat was losing weight and it turns out she was hyperthyroid and lacking potassium.
We give her pills twice a day. Lots of fun as you can imagine ;)
