KHARTOUM, Sudan (July 21) - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice held a congratulatory round of meetings with officials of the new unified Sudanese government Thursday, but expressed outrage after security forces manhandled aides and reporters accompanying her.
''It makes me very angry to be sitting there with their president and have this happen,'' she said. ''They have no right to push and shove.''
Rice made her remarks to reporters after she and her entourage were aboard an airplane preparing to leave the Sudanese capital.
''Diplomacy 101 says you don't rough your guests up,'' Rice senior adviser Jim Wilkinson had said earlier as he and reporters traveling with Rice faced off with guards at the ultra-high-security residence of Sudanese President Omar el-Bashir.
El-Bashir's guards elbowed Americans and tried to rip a tape away from a U.S. reporter. At another point, Rice's interpreter and some other aides accompanying her were blocked at a gate.
Ambassador Khidair Haroun Ahmed, head of the Sudanese mission in Washington, attempted to smooth over the situation. ''Please accept our apologies,'' he told reporters and Rice aides. ''This is not our policy.''
But there was yet another scuffle with security shortly after he apologized when a U.S. television reporter tried to ask el-Bashir a question about his involement with alleged atrocities.
Guards grabbed the diminutive reporter and muscled her toward the rear of the room as State Department officials shouted at the guards to leave her alone.

Reminds me of when Bush was abroad and the state security there detained his personal security guard. Bush walked right into the crowd, grapped his guard and pulled him in.
No one should be surprised. The Sudanese government is thuggish. They are Islamist and have the blood of many Christians and other non-Muslims on their hands.
...aahhh, yup! She looks furious. (And rightly so!)
The remainder of the article goes into some of their "alleged" atrocities.
What did they expect from a bunch or genocidal murderers from the 7th century?
Bingo.
I knew they should have sent Joe Wilson, Super Diplomat, and agent Plame...
I wonder how much are we giving these sudan terrorists?
If there is any one statement by Islamic terrorists which can be believed as true, it's that they want all non-Muslims removed from Muslim lands.
Pity the governments of the West don't have reciprocal sentiments.
The Condi "Death Stare." No one looks at it and lives.
More Sudanese thugs.
However much it is, I'm sure it's not nearly enough - you know how evil and greedy we are.
Also, Khartoom, only hving landed there, is teh end of the world.
That part of Sudan that I have seen only from he air, (Except Khartoum airport which I saw on the ground) is beyond arid.
If that's the way Al-Bashir's people act when the Secretary of State is around, can you imagine what his people have to put up with? Tancredo seems to be the only sane man in public life: we need to begin bombing Muslim shrines.
Khartoum should be right after mecca and medina when the nukes come out!!!
I'm surprised because
I'd have thought security
forces that travel
with Rice would have been
equipped and motivated
enough to, well, hell,
flat out overthrow
the entire government of
a third world hell-hole.
I'm guessing Sudan's
"army" is alive because
Rice is a nice gal!
Whatever we are giving them is too much...This bunch needs killing.
Imagine the kind of Islamic glory they would receive for holding a US official hostage or killing them? I don't trust any of them!
