Syndicated radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger will make her stage debut in a new one-woman theatrical event entitled "Dr. Laura: In My NEVER To Be Humble Opinion."

There will be two performances at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara, Calif., August 19 and 20, with engagements in Northern California and Texas later this year.

In "Dr. Laura: In My NEVER To Be Humble Opinion," radio's No. 1 relationship-and-family-values talk show host will provide an intimate look into her mind and character, revealing personal

secrets that she has never before shared with the public.

Act One is a tour-de-force performance piece that mixes humor with true-life stories plus current events pulled from the top stories of the day.

Dr. Laura will share her opinions on everything from childbirth to death and all things in between including her own childhood, revealing a new side of her quick-witted, hilarious and frighteningly insightful mind.

In Act Two, she will take questions submitted from that night's audience and, in distinctive Dr. Laura style, mete out advice at the speed of light as she does every day on her radio program.

For more than 30 years, as one of the most popular talk show hosts in radio history, Dr. Laura has offered no-nonsense advice infused with a strong sense of ethics, accountability and personal responsibility. She is also the author of seven New York Times best sellers, including last year's chart-topping "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands."

When asked about her stage debut, Dr. Laura said: "I've listened to my callers' secrets for thirty years. Now it's my turn. There's a lot that people don't know about me, and I look forward to surprising my fans, my friends - and myself, too."

That's NOT Broadway. Thankfully. She'd lose a lot of respect from me if she ever associated herself with that...

She hates women. That is pretty obvious if you listen to her for any length of time.

Did she ever renounce her Judaism? She was making noises along those lines awhile back.

Was she?

Guess that's not surprising, since two of the biggest decisions in her life - devout Judaism and having a child - were influenced by TV programs.

I like some of what she says, but she's too shallow for me. No, thanks.

I agree. Everything is the fault of the woman. She especially dislikes Mothers and daughters having relationships. I think SHE'S the one who needs counseling.

No, it'll NEVER get to Broadweay! The NYC fairies would NEVER allow her to have a show on Broadway! Other than the obvious vicious ways they could stop her and the normals working for her, they are wealthy enough to buy up some/most of the tickets for the first shows and then leave the seats empty or give the tickets to the homeless, hookers or illegals.

No she does not. She is just fighting against the Blame Men for Everything mentality that was foisted upon us by the women's movement of the 60's.

I Googled it. From a Wikipedia entry:

"In July 2003, Schlessinger announced on her show that she was no longer an Orthodox Jew. This was a shock to both fans and detractors, given the effort she had put into identifying as an Orthodox Jew both on-air and off. In a series of monologues over the next month, she explained that she did not feel a connection with God and felt frustrated by the effort she had put into following the religion. She also mentioned envying the relationship with God described by her Christian fans. Her religious approach on the show lessened substantially after this announcement.

As of November 2003, her show is syndicated to 275 stations, down from a peak of 470. Stations lost include powerful ones such as WABC in New York. As of Fall 2004, her audience is estimated at eight million listeners. Call volume has also declined, as can be observed by the number of callers invited to call back. At the show's peak, with 60,000 attempted calls per day, callers were told they only could appear once."

Her son Deryk uses her surname, not his father's (Bishop). He was planning to open a hookah bar in Hillsdale, Michigan last year, but has since joined the Army.

LOL!
"That's one of the easiest ways to pick up chicks-with a hookah," Schlessinger said.

Bet he's wishing he didn't say that to the reporter. Wonder why he ended up joining the army instead?

I laughed at that line too. Trying to zing mommy?

He is in the Special Forces. He enlisted this year. According to Wikipedia again:

"He is currently assigned to Delta Company 1st Battalion 329 Infantry Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia, under the command of Captain Antiño R. Allen and his Executive Officer James Van Thach."

For some reason, I thought Dr. Laura said a few years ago that he wanted to attend the Air Force Academy. I guess that didn't happen.

Sounds a bit like Deryk is going about the business of being his own man. He may be rushing it a bit; but if he wasn't willing to attend college, it is a good idea.

I wonder if the Israeli system of all their youth going into the IDS for 2 years [(?) isn't it] might be what motivated him to go into the Infantry's Special Forces?
