Now, regarding your second point ~ that the "immigrants who shared the aims of our foes" were some sort of issue ~ the fact is that native born Americans, many of whom were descendants of immigrants who first arrived in the early 1700s, were vigorously opposed to fighting a war on behalf of the Brits against the Germans.

This was particularly the case in such states as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and the Great Plains where German was still commonly used, and in Indiana where it was a LEGAL language in general use, particularly in industrial cities!

Wilson began neutralizing German-American opposition by rounding up German-American politicians and imprisoning them. Once he'd co-opted the Austro-Hungarian crowd, there wasn't much for the German-Americans to do but go along.

Please note, Wilson rounded up the politicians ~ not the people, as Roosevelt did later.

Wilson did a much more effective job and hurt fewer people.

You don't get it, we're not dealing with Americanized Germans. You round up their mullahs and imams and you enrage them.I still think that the violent imams should be deported or put away for life, but I recognize that such action will trigger his followers to attack. We are dealing with people whom we don't understand-- they're values, their grievances, their rage is so foreign to us. We simply can't continue to let them build a terror infrastructure in this country. How many children to their women have? The muslim population in this country is skyrocketing -- what percentage of them are actively seditious, what percentage fund the killers and what percentage are proud of the killers? Honest answers to those questions aren't pretty.
