This will be a small consolation - but the 12 years average stay on death row in CA will be shortening over the next few years as the Federal Habeas Corpus reform law starts to whittle down the average. They get one bite of the apple now - and have to consolidate all claims in one action instead of this piecemeal appeal on this and that fine technicality. That alone should shorten the 12 years to perhaps 5-6. In time.
