Without researching it on google, I believe she died from a drug oversode in 1974.
What's World Jazz?
OTOH, They really weren't that big either.
Overall, they were relatively well known and popular,
but they weren't exactly superbands like the Stones, Beatles, Crosby Stills & Nash, etc. etc.
Come to think of it, they were just another band during an era of great bands and good tunes.
Thanks - never knew that before.
"I'm very pleased that, in my opinion, the legacy is preserved," added Densmore. "I never intended for Ray and Robby to stop playing -- they're great musicians. I hope Doors fans keep going to see them -- it's just the name is owned by me and them and the estate of Jim Morrison, and they kinda ran off with stolen property."
Good for Densmore....
If the greedy Kreiger and Manzarek want to get the "Doors" together, Densmore has to play. Afterall, his drumming style helped create the Doors "sound."
Page and Plant tried to screw bassist John Paul Jones the same way -- only they didn't refer to themselves as "Led Zepplin of the 21st Century."
who told Reuters he was concerned that the band's legacy was being tarnished by its reincarnation as an oldies act.
Tarnish "The Doors" ?
Now that's funny I don't who you are!!!!
john densmore always seemed to be a bit of a whiner
Pamela Courson was also a doper. She overdosed a few years after Morrison died.
I might have to amend the any guest they like statement as I am pretty sure (though not absolutely certain) that there are policies prohibiting certain guests like spouses from being allowed on a ship underway. If allowed at all, there are probably time limits imposed. I'm not sure about adult children. At any rate, admirals and skippers are given a great deal of latitude when inviting guests on board.
Now playing: The Door Knobs
"Page and Plant tried to screw bassist JPJ the same way."Any background on why JPJ was dumped?I'd read there were problems between the three, but no real reason.Money or ego(s)?
It's a combination of world music (non-standard percussion usually) and jazz. Tribal jazz has typical jazz instruments- piano, sax/flute, bass, drums, and then about 3 percussionists (mostly African)- a very nice sound.
I'd assume both money AND ego, though I'm not sure.
"I find this fact surprising that a nostalgia tour could generate more money than the band made in the past nearly 40 years as Doors' albums have always been consistent sellers with new generations of kids"
Bands get screwed seven ways to Sunday on record sales. Live gigs and publishing rights are where the money is for the artists.
Thanks.
"At least these nostalgia bands have more than one hit to their name. Seeing Journey perform 20 or so "hits" is better than seeing one hit from a new band."
I wouldn't want to see Journey without Steve Perry.
"Millions"? Maybe. "Millions and Millions?" I would have to see the books before I'd believe it. It's not like half of the Doors are Paul McCartney or the Grateful Dead.
Well, considering that the Doors made six original albums and their discography is now...what...nearly 30 records? I'd say they made the bulk of their money re-packaging and re-marketing the same product. And that's all that "The Doors of the 21st Century" was...and a lot of aging baby boomers paid big bucks to try to recapture their fading (or faded) youth with that stuff.
These guys can change their name now to the "Poors".
