The same was so with the ARVN, not so very long ago...half or more of them were VC, and another 49% of them feared for their families.....I fully support establishing secular democracy in the center of the muslim world.....but I remember full well the course of events from Jan, 1973 thru April, 1975........hopefully, the final outcome this time will be different.

I mean no disrespect to you since you know a lot more about vietnam than I (based on your username), but I really dislike the parallels being drawn between the conflicts (usually from the Kennedy crowd). In Iraq there is no central, organized opposition, most of the country is on our side. We also have an administration committed to victory.

I drew one single parallel, merely to demonstrate my opinion of the previous statement re the (muslim) Iraqi army.......so I accept your point, in fact I have been visceral about it myself.....I simply put little faith (but some HOPE) in the idea that the aforementioned muslims in Iraq will be motivated, competent, or secure enough in their well-being after our departure.

Beyond that, this is no Vietnam to me.
