It can be done, it should be done and it must be done before the feds grant them special protective status exceeding that of citizens!
------
It is tragic that Washington has grossly abused their lack of accountability and let this get to this stage -- it never should have happened, but when the VOTE BECAME MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR COUNTRY, we lost the government that the framers had hoped for, fought and died for...

How do you know they are willing to get registered? Why don't they register now in their native country to become LEGAL immigrants...like millions have done before them? Who is going to register and process them...we got the manpower and computer resources for 10-20 million? We have processing centers set up for this? How about biometric identity to track them? False IDs and SSNs an issue? What happens when we "find them"? Sorry, big guy, I'm too tired to do the checking tonight. Maybe tomorrow. There was a thread here back in Feb or March or so where somebody established that they were willing to get registered. Governments in Mexico and most other countries exist for the sole purpose of giving the bureaucrats a way to make a living-by-extortion; you gets no permits for nothing without enormous payoffs "under" the table.
Manpower and resources? If it comes down to an "either-or" situation (which I really doubt), then kill the Social Security Ponzi scheme IMMEDIATELY and devote it to the MUCH HIGHER national priority of tracking illegals. What happens when we find them? They get ID cards like the ones shown here and escorted to the border 2 years or whatever later.
That's all my guesswork; I'm no policy maker, but I do try to think about long-term and unintended consequences, and raise the same kinds of questions you do, but likely with a different emphasis. Our super-low unemployment rate weighs heavily in some areas, for example, but that doesn't make law-breaking or unenforceable law-making right.

You're mixing issues. Tell me how Bush is crapping on the families of citizens and I suspect I'll agree with you and add my voice to yours. Has he changed immigration law to make it more difficult to get family members in? The last I heard Bush was working to substantially reduce that time. But what does that have to do with border jumpers. They aren't cutting in line. They don't slow others down or make it more difficult for others.
You could not be more wrong. The McCain-Kennedy bill let the H-5A visas convert to a permanent resident at the end of 4 years. Heck, it's going to take an adult child of a citizen at least 8 years to get into the country, much less get PR status, and that is the First Family Preference. Not only that, but under current law the Permanent Residents classifications 2A & 2B have now passed the 1A First Family Classification. FAMILY MEMBERS OF CITIZENS COME UP SHORT UNDER THIS PLAN.
Kyl-Cornyn were given the job of being the point men for Bush. The original outline of the bill provided elimination of the 75,000 diversity visas, and allocated those to family reunification, plus it raised the totals, and allowed for a catchup for visas lost. When the actual bill came out they gave everything to business and the guest worker program, and then for the family preferences for citizens they sent everything to the circular committee (trash can) for an 18 month study. QUITE FRANKLY BUSH IS RAPEING CITIZENS ON THIS BILL TOO.

You think dumping tons of poor illegals on a town doesn't impact the taxation level ? They are like locusts. Wherever they go they ARE the issue.
To: EagleUSA
And don't forget their relatives. The next cry will be for "family reunification" (gotta get the grandparents on Social Security and the widowed sister with her 8 kids on SSI, as well as the chronically ill brother, and . . .) ------ Yes, that is the secondary fear, and clear and present danger of this disasterous policy to real American citizens. The ultimate backstop, sadly, is total, runaway socialism in the USA, which will be the end of the USA as a first-rate country. Washington just does not care -- tax dollars and tax payers are an infinite resource in their politically-driven minds...
I would agree with you if the family members were old, but the majority are not. How would you like it if your daughter was not even allowed to visit her family in America? That's not Russia imposing that restriction, but America.

The other thing is I think for most people immigration isn't the number one issue. For example taxation levels or the war on terrorism seem bigger issues to most people.
Immigration is by far and away the number one issue in the Midwest.

Creo que los Hispanos solamente trabajan en el club privado y en el jardin de su amigo. Claro que en este dia de 2005, viviendo en el estado que vive, que su amigo no tendra amigos o familiares que son Hispanos es un cosa que me dice mucho.

Yes, I agree. Our government could turn things around. They don't want to. I do blame the employers of illegal immigrants, but I will admit the federal government doesn help much. If a bogus SS number is submitted, it would seem the feds would have a system set up to check it and let the employer know. I'm not convinced this happens.

With the couple of employers I experienced even if that system had been in place and they were notified they would've worked around it and kept they're illegal employees like the former employer I described in post 60.

I don't disagree on that point. I have no doubt this does take place all the time. Hell, it's obvious that it does.

...and this does not take into consideration the illegal flow.
Time magazine pegged that at three million last year.
How many years would it take for Europe to equal that number? About 25?

"When do citizens of the United States cease to be citizens of the United States? When the federal government no longer addresses their concerns, but does the concerns of foreign nationals."
Actually, that means that the Federal government is by default in deriliction of duty. Enough of that goes on, and people will begin to view it as a foreign entity claiming sovereignty over the people ( although right now, there are quite a few at the Federal level who see it that way now ). I don't like the way that line of thought is going.......

Banned/suspended yet again, Rodney? You trying to set some sort of record? Dude! I didn't know that! Was it the #70 post in this thread where he said the G.O.P. "should pander" to Hispanic voters?
So, let me get this straight as to what common sense has to overcome:
1. La Raza/Aztlan types who want "chicanos" to take over and take back the SW U.S.
2. Neo-Nazi, Stormfront-types who just want all brown folks to "go away".
3. Bayourod types who claim to be anti-illegal, but want to weaken the laws and strengthen amnesty programs such that no one will ever be illegal again and American sovereignty and borders will be meaningless all in pursuit of the allmighty dollar and, of course, the pandering of Hispanic votes--because he basically thinks "we" are childlike and one-issuer voters who vote based on immigration issues when in fact many of "we" don't know any illegals or anyone in Mexico.
We're screwn.
PS: I've been MIA today because my cat jumped the Kingdom of HR border and was lost all day; so, canvassing the neighborhood while putting up vegetables EXHAUSTED me.
