Didn't Kucunich run for Prez?
Thank you for showing that both parties have their kooks(kucunich, tancredo, etc.etc).
The demos much more so.
And absurdity is completely ignoring my reply #78.
Guest worker program? Guests are invited; trespassers aren't.
If a solid case can be made that the Bush Administration is using this program to court votes and donations, that cuts it.
Our security is too valuable to trade for votes and donations, and that's what it would boil down to. How many would rush the border to take advantage of a guest worker program? Who could possibly rush the border with them?
If this becomes a high priority in Washington, will anyone here get realistic?
You're mixing issues. Tell me how Bush is crapping on the families of citizens and I suspect I'll agree with you and add my voice to yours. Has he changed immigration law to make it more difficult to get family members in? The last I heard Bush was working to substantially reduce that time. But what does that have to do with border jumpers. They aren't cutting in line. They don't slow others down or make it more difficult for others.
As far as pandering to American citizens of Hispanic heritage, I'm all for that, just as we should pander to all groups. That includes welcoming them into the party, recognizing their cultural holidays, sending flowers to the funerals of their community leaders, entertainers, religious figures, etc..., advertising in their media and on billboards in their neighborhoods, having town hall meeting in their neighborhoods and listening to their complaints, hiring some on your staff that they can feel comfortable calling to express their opinions, naming posts offices after them. appointing them to high profile positions, speaking a few phrases in their native language, complimenting the beauty of their women, praising their food.....What's wrong with that? That's called smart politics and good representing.
" Put the blame on the right people, the Buchanan/Tancredo fear mongers."
-----
Have we found ourselves an illegal Mexican on FR ???? They are the ONLY people that have anything to fear from Tancredo and PB --
And don't forget their relatives. The next cry will be for "family reunification" (gotta get the grandparents on Social Security and the widowed sister with her 8 kids on SSI, as well as the chronically ill brother, and . . .)
------
Yes, that is the secondary fear, and clear and present danger of this disasterous policy to real American citizens. The ultimate backstop, sadly, is total, runaway socialism in the USA, which will be the end of the USA as a first-rate country. Washington just does not care -- tax dollars and tax payers are an infinite resource in their politically-driven minds...
...while promoting tougher border security enforcement (insert laugh track from Seinfeld HERE)...
The latter focus is an attempt to mollify bullsh*t a vocal bloc of cultural conservatives in the GOP some in the House leadership who argue that undocumented workers present a security threat and take some jobs.
There you have it..
Dubya Bush was ALWAYS pandering for the Latino vote (even though the GOP won't ever break 40%), while giving the finger to his bloc of cultural conservatives in the GOP who actually got him reelected TWICE.
All I can say is Bush had better install REAL conservatives to the SCOTUS -- including Roberts.
True what you said about legal Hispanics not welcoming hordes of illegals.
HOWEVER,when it APPEARS the opposition to illegal immigration consists of almost all Anglo origin, many of these Mexican-Americans will stand with their"hermanos de la Raza"who have jumped the border.
An analogy would be what I saw at a high school in the Seventies in Georgia. The black kids were almost always feuding with each other, involved in all kinds of petty bickering stemming from divisions among those from public housing projects and those from"better"families in a middle class area.
Yet when some white kids from another town supposedly threatened to come to the school to"kick ass"the black kids grouped up and forgot their anger toard each other to defend against"whitey".
I think we will see the same phenomena now unless the anti-immigrant movement-Minutemen,etc-diversifies.
Not trying to sound PC.Just realistic.
"By being soft on illegal immigration, the Republican Party will lose 10 long-time Republican votes for every new Hispanic vote such a stance might achieve."
I thought that Rove understood the importance of TURNOUT. There's no better way to ensure that CONSERVATIVE voters STAY HOME in 2006 than to pass amnesty.
" Nobody has been on these boards as much as you giving an apology for the illegal Hispanic worker"
LOL!!!! How true....
Most will. But some of the Antis are just the old Buchanan retreads. They believe3d up until the recount in 2000 that a large secret underground army of pitchfork patriots were going to rise up and elect him President.
They were so deep in denial that they really believed that the polls were incorrect because Buchanan's voters didn't have telephones.
Even after Buchanan took a prohomosexual position, and named a homosexual advocate to nominate him that he was still the only pro-family candidate on the ballot.
When he chose a Socialist Party leader for his running mate they still just knew that he was the only true conservative in the race.
There is nothing that can open the eyes of the old Buchanan crowd. And I doubt that anything could get FDA approval before the elections in 2008
You must not have read the posts about my recent encounter with MS-13.
Exactly right, I've seen conservatives saying they were going to bail on the Republican party time and again. But when the election comes around, you can always count on the dems to nominate someone horrific. So those same conservatives rally behind whichever Republican gets nominated.
The other thing is I think for most people immigration isn't the number one issue. For example taxation levels or the war on terrorism seem bigger issues to most people.
Since the government is claiming the illegals are only coming here to do the work Americans are unwilling, then by the same token the American people must do the work its government is not willing and start pushing the tide back. It can be done, it should be done and it must be done before the feds grant them special protective status exceeding that of citizens!
Will your encounter with MS13 keep you from erasing the graffiti?
