ROMNEY JURIST PICKS NOT TILTED TO GOP

Independents, Democrats get call

Governor Mitt Romney, who touts his conservative credentials to out-of-state Republicans, has passed over GOP lawyers for three-quarters of the 36 judicial vacancies he has faced, instead tapping registered Democrats or independents -- including two gay lawyers who have supported expanded same-sex rights, a Globe review of the nominations has found. Of the 36 people Romney named to be judges or clerk magistrates, 23 are either registered Democrats or unenrolled voters who have made multiple contributions to Democratic politicians or who voted in Democratic primaries, state and local records show. In all, he has nominated nine registered Republicans, 13 unenrolled voters, and 14 registered Democrats. With increased attention on judicial nominees after President Bush's nomination of John G. Roberts Jr. to the US Supreme Court, Romney said Friday that he has not paid a moment's notice to his nominees' political leanings or sexual orientation -- or to the impact his choices might have on a future presidential run. He said he has focused on two factors: their legal experience and whether the nominees would be tough on crime. He said most of the nominees have prosecutorial experience.

What's wrong with Mitt. His state judiciary is perhaps the most screwed up of 50.

Heard Romney using weasel words when discussing embryonic stem cell research too.

Pathetic.

There is no way in Heck that he will ever get a nomination for President. He's too liberal, as mentioned in the article, and he's from the NE.

Every time I point out that this guy is a big time RINO, I get flamed by other posters for about a week afterward. I am glad that his record is coming to light now. This guy is the RINO poster child extraordinary!

RINO. Of course, with a legislature that is so overwhelmingly liberal, I don't think he'd have much chance of putting conservatives on the bench.

You're right, blaming it on the legislature won't do, the Governor's Council votes on judges. The Governor Council is elected, and this is pretty much all they do. Romeny is nothing but a big RINO.

Watch what he does, not what he says. He is a RINO, pure and simple.

Mitt Romney, pro-gay pro-abortion anti-gun gov who likes to nominate gay activist judges. I'm shocked! Shocked!

The only way Romney could get the nomination for a presidential run would be to change parties. Based on the facts, honestly demands he do that anyway. But since when did honesty determine political moves?

Ping me over to the discussion, Romney has performed in a most pitifully inept way, secretly acquiescing to the sodomite lobby while putting on a show that he opposes it...

This information is very useful and something I didn't know. I believe that our MA Supreme Court Chief Justice, the woman from South Africa, was appointed by former Gov. Paul Celluci, another RINO.

I do know that Romney is a fiscal conservative. We had a 2-3 billion deficit and now we have a small surplus thanks to Romney. He is HATED by the teacher's unions, etc., for his budget stance and for his strong advocacy of mandatory MCAS testing. Publicly he's come out against gay marriage, etc. but he hasn't done very much about it.

I'm just telling you what I know about the man. This Globe report would give me second thoughts about Romney. You should know that the Boston Globe is owned by the New York Times. The MSM must be afraid that Romney would pose a threat to Hillary in '08.

Who else can I vote for? McCain? Graham? Hell no! I really don't see a strong conservative out there at present.

The following are more or less conservative (everyone has their own nitpick) but way to the right of Romney/Rudy/et al:

Certain or likely candidates: Sen. Bill Frist, Sen. George Allen (fmr VA gov), MN Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Sen. Sam Brownback, Gov. Mike Huckabee

Like Father like Son. The apple doesn't fall far from the Tree.

George Romney was a RINO long before that term was ever coined or most of the people employing it here were even born.

I'd no sooner vote for a Romney than for a McCain or Snowe.
