In Most Cases, Israel Thwarts Suicide Attacks Without a Shot By STEVEN ERLANGER

JERUSALEM, July 24 - Very late on Friday night, Israeli military and counterintelligence forces intercepted a would-be suicide bomber on his way to Tel Aviv, wearing a suicide belt, and persuaded him to disrobe and surrender.

The capture was a sharp contrast to the killing last week of an innocent man by the British police, who mistakenly thought he was a suicide bomber.

The Israelis have failed to stop suicide bombers many times. But they have succeeded far more often.

Among the differences in the situations faced by the two countries, perhaps the most significant is intelligence. Israel occupies the West Bank and its army and officials of the Shin Bet counterterrorism agency patrol it constantly. They have mapped every building and built a network of informants and collaborators. Many Israeli officers speak Arabic, and they often receive a warning before a bomber tries to attack.

If Israel has similarly shot an innocent foreigner, there would be a Security Council emergency meeting with the British voting to condemn Israel.

There are lots and lots of ways to stop suicide bombings before they happen. Shooting the bomber in the head is just one of many options, but it is an option that needs to remain available.

Hasn't always been this way. Israeli Cops and Troops have had itchy trigger fingers for years. The only reason they are talking the bombers down now, is that they are catching them at the security checkpoints in the wall.

Israel has years of experience delaing with homicide bombers, while this is a relatively new phenominon in the West...

No, no, and damn no, Israel does not occupy the "West Bank", and it does not patrol it. Thanks to the Oslo "Peace" accords the Arabs have complete autonomous control of that area. Why the heck do they think there is a terrorism problem in the first place! When the area was under Israel's sovereignty, there was no such thing as body bombs and daily mortar attacks.

As typical, the New York Slimes gets it wrong. They helped to create the Apartheid regime of the PLO and created the breeding ground for this terrorism and now they blame the Jews for it? You cannot have your cake and eat it too, Return the "West Bank" to IDF control and you will not a problem, return it to the Arab League and you have body bombs a plenty.

Although it does not take a IQ larger than your shoe size to figure that out, It seems nobody in the Slimes fits the profile.
