I know...but I didn't want to alarm any of the Jamboree parents who may be online; and have children at the event and not be able to contact them. It took my friend and hour to get through and find out that her son and their group were ok.

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change that oft make me wonder if you actually give a damn...

So sad. I was privileged to attend the 1973 National Scout Jamboree in Moraine State Park in Pennsylvania. It is an experience that I will never forget. A Scout is reverent, and tragic accidents such as this call for reverence toward our merciful God. I feel for all Scouts and Scout leaders.

I just called the wife of our Troops Scoutmaster. He's down there.

According to him, they were setting up a tent and the center pole hit an electical wire.

"According to him, they were setting up a tent and the center pole hit an electical wire."

Where were the leaders from?

Was this really an accident?

The ACLU and their gay constituents were trying to stop the BSA from using Army bases for their activities.

Was this really an accident?

Show some respect please.

Save that for tomorrow.

Pray for the families and for the Scouting program.

He does, Tomkat. Just remember it's "THY will be done." Not, "MY will be done." ((Tomkat))

Not too quibble, but a lot of these bases use 4160V. 13.2kV is usually 20' up. It must have been a big tent. How could they have not seen the lines?

A local TV station , (Richmond, VA), said that a vehicle struck a pole and that caused the wire to fall on top of the tent.

Just read that they were 4 scout leaders from Alaska.

Really really really stupid question from an city girl, but if they were from a really rural area, might the specs be different?

The National Jamboree I attended is full of rather fond memories.

I went to one in Colorado Springs, and vividly recall President Eisenhower making the (then traditional, I believe) drive through in some sort of pastel convertible, doing the "parade wave".

We then went on to Philmont in New Mexico for several days of hiking and camping.

Quite an experience for this then-kid!

I have the bad feeling that they were most likely burnt to death as opposed to electrocuted. This is really sad.

Of course I am praying for them.

But it is a legitimate question.

My son is there and I just called his cell.

Things have changed since I was at the Jamboree in the very early 1960's....we got to sleep in tents.
