BOSTON - Gov. Mitt Romney will veto a bill expanding access to emergency contraception, a move likely to please anti-abortion activists crucial to a 2008 presidential run.
Romney told House and Senate leaders in a letter of his decision, saying that he had ``promised the people of Massachusetts that as Governor I would not change the laws of the Commonwealth as they relate to abortion.''
``The bill before me would change those laws and for that reason I am vetoing it,'' he wrote.

I've been looking for purpose all my life. Romney for prez just may be my calling, if the timing is right.
Spare me.
When did Romney say what you put in your tagline: "I believe abortion should be safe and legal in this country." Do you have a source?
Give me a break. This is pure politics, nothing more. Romney is a RINO Dukakis.
The author (you???) sites "the Boston Globe" but gives no date, article, page, or any other reference to verify the statement.
Even assuming you're right, that would make him a DINO, not a RINO. He looks like a dem, but the act of vetoing emergency contraception shows he is really the opposite.
One source: http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2005/06/28/romney_releases_mothers_statement_on_abortion_issue/
Romney's a weasel who says that A) he's in a "different place" on abortion -- but won't say what that place is -- and B) his stance on abortion hasn't changed.
Here's the full quote from another source, along with a discussion of Romney's support for gay leaders in the Boy Scouts:
I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time when my Mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a U.S. Senate candidate. I believe that since Row v. Wade has been the law for 20 years, we should sustain and support it. I sustain and support that law and the right of a woman to make that choice. And my personal beliefs, like the personal beliefs of other people, should not be brought into a political campaign," said Romney. http://www.massnews.com/2002_editions/06_June/061802_mn_romney.shtml
That's right. Not only is Romney pro-abortion, but he thinks "personal beliefs" have no place in politics.
What an idiot!
As for the other source, that's Mitt's mother. Maybe she is betraying him somehow, but I don't place stock in peoples' moms to evaluate the views of their offspring.
Dude you are so far in denial.
I'm not saying he DIDN'T say it, or that he's not flip-flopped on the issue, but the signing of this bill is a good thing either way.
If you need a new purpose in life, how about working for conservative US Rep. Steve King of Iowa?
Good question. There is no such thing. This is the so called "morning-after pill", which is an abortifacient. The child has already been conceived when the pill has its effect.
Do you measn the liberals are trying to hide their true purpose, again? Well, I never!
