Perhaps Indian-Americans frown at you because most of them seem to vote Democrat(for all the wrong reasons), and you vote Republican. Did that ever cross your mind?
Immigrants, especially legal ones from India, are often brain-washed by the 'Rats about the Republicans being all "racist", and "xenophobic". Most of them happen to vote Democrat as a result of these lies. However, the good news is that more and more Indian-Americans are seeing themselves better reflected by the Republicans, than by the amoral and decadent leftist 'Rats who only spread falsities for the sake of immigrant votes.
Even the Blacks are beginning to see this.
It's amusing to see the light dawning in their EU-indoctrinated brains, isn't it?
Actually, Vedic Hinduism, which is the original root of the religion, has plenty of references to consuming meat, especially beef. Things took a turn toward vegetarianism quite recently, about 600 or so years ago. Shortage of livestock, Muslim invasion, reform movements, all have played a role in this. You'll find plenty of resoures on this with a simple search on the internet.
Most Hindus won't really bother about another person's eating habits as long as it is kept in the private realm & the problem is mainly with beef.Barring Muslim functions, most other meats are served & consumed by other religious groups(including Hindus). The only exception to this are folks who belong to the fundamentalist fringe like the RSS/VHP & some states like Gujarat & Madhya Pradesh -for eg,many flights to Gujarat, inc. private operators serve all vegetarian meals so as to not "offend" sensibilities.
LOL! That's usually where it starts!
India is a very old civilization that has not yet shaken off some of the traditions of the past. It will in time, India and Indians (Hindus) are not dreaming of how to kill you and everyone you know, muslims are. You should keep that in mind.
Agree, but the fact is that Hindus never have had the general murderous lashing out history that Moslems have.
Any1 w/a modicum of historical knowledge knows it is common sense that the Moslems are the ever-bloodthirsty jealous and intolerant lot. Their history is riddled w/tyrannical behavior.
India benefits from the British parliamentary system, but its leaders have taken it down a road that condones and promotes inhumanity.
If I am not mistaken, Pakistan pretends to be a parliamentary democracy as well.
The difference between the two can be nuanced, which would infer that the policy results would be similar as well.
I am glad that Musharraf assists (sometimes) on the war on terror. I don't see that he has much choice.
LOL LOL LOL!
"One reason Hindus may frown on Christians is the fact that many Christians eat meat"
Thanks for your earlier logical post. This statement, however, I must correct. Many "Hindus" eat meat. It depends on the part of the country - Bengalis for example eat fish. Kashmiri Pandits eat meat.
The reasons "Hindus" frown on Christianity
1. Christianity states "my way is the only way" i.e. through Jesus. That is anathema to "Hindus" who feel that there are many ways to God. For example, the four essential paths to salvation are Karma Yoga (action), Gnyan Yoga (Knowledge), Bhakti Yoga (devotion) and Prem Yoga (love). Even in Bhakti Yoga, there are many many "gods". Thus there is a very direct and simple conflict between the two.
2. Christianity has commandments such as "thou shall make no graven image of me" which goes against the idolatary mindset of "Hindus". For a "Hindu", not not have an idol of Ganesh, Krishna, etc would be as bad as eating beef.
3. Christianity is not an "Indian" religion. For the most part, "Indian" religions such as Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, etc are treated with respect. There is a ethos that comes through in these "Indian" religions that is absent in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The ethos is a common concept of Dharam, Karma, Soul, reincarnation, etc
There are more, but I think I'll stop here.
cheers
While Sikhism may be treated with respect in the abstract, in fact you get a much different story when you speak with Sikhs that have immigrated from the Punjab region.
Unfortunately, Indira Gandhi's machinations destroyed a lot of trust between Sikhs and "Hindus". The wound will take time to heal, and it is healing quite fast. You may ask your aggrieved Sikh friends how the Prime Minister and the Army Chief of India happen to be Sikhs if things are as bad as they suggest they are.
It is a relief to know that the number of Hindus who want me dead is a mere 100 million.
LOL! Indira Gandhi did more than destroy the trust between Sikhs and Hindus.
My Sikh friends are glad to be legal American citizens in which they can hold property unmolested by the government (well, less molested than they would be in India, even today with a Sikh PM and Chief of the Army). And I am glad that my Sikh friends are Americans too. :)
One of my Sikh friends is married to a Catholic. He said that only Christianity holds women and men as equal partners as Mary has the role of the only perfect person not needing the grace of God and as the Mother of God. :)
>>when you speak with Sikhs that have immigrated from the Punjab region.
They're living in the past, holding onto memories of a struggle that is over, reactionaries, feeding old supposed grievances, indulging in what really are common sentiments amongst many immigrants groups, who can nurture old hatreds in the freedom of America.
The Army COS, the Prime Minister are Sikhs. They are pervasive in India in commerce, the military and in government.
:) See post 36
LOL! Good one!
(This is too weird. I'm having deja`vu about your reply. Seems almost exactly like another forum conversation.)
I'll still hold by my thoughts that if we have to go by moral relativism, it's the Moslems we have to really worry about! Terror is intrinsic to their lifestyle.
Ever notice that Moslems basically never smile? In fact, often see scowls on those faces? I mean, in their desert homelands, too! I'd say that's the difference right there.
