Officials ready lynching re-enactment

WALTON COUNTY — With the 59th anniversary of the Moore’s Ford lynchings coming up on Monday, activists are gearing up for a re-enactment of the tragedy.

Two black couples, George and Mae Murray Dorsey and Dorothy and Roger Malcom, were killed by a lynch mob of unmasked white men at the Moore’s Ford bridge on July 25, 1946.

On Friday, state Rep. Tyrone Brooks (D-47, of Atlanta) held a press conference in Monroe to provide more details about the re-enactment

I searched and did not see this, but did catch it on the local news. What an insane demonstration and bizarre behaviour. The "lynchers" were black guys with white masks on making them look like the phantom of the opera was mugging two couples. Absolutely pathetic. I can't find any link in the ajc about it. HMMM.

Oh and Tyrone Brooks is a race baiting trouble make from way back. This tragedy did not even occur in Atlanta then or now.

Georgia State Rep. Tyrone Brooks walks past the overgrown yard of the home outside of Monroe, Ga., believed to be the farmhouse of Barney Hester, Sunday, July 24, 2005. As a 20-year-old civil rights activist, in 1968, Brooks met Dan Young, who ran the Walton county's only black funeral home, where he viewed pictures of dead bodies, who were the victims, Young told Brooks, of the last open public mass lynchings in the U.S. On Monday, the 59th anniversary of the lynchings, Brooks and other civil rights activists will re-enact that fateful day with a march starting at this property, in hopes of gaining support for the arrest and prosecution of anyone still alive who may have been involved or responsible. How far is this place from the black Funeral Home where the director threw the bodies out in the sheds and lawn instead of cremating them?

Why relive a terrible part of history and inflame emotions to further divide the people? Noone in their right mind condones what happened then.

The local news plastered this thing all over the place. While finding out who the perps are is important (finding the murderers in any case is important), the exploitation of this by Brooks (and Jesse Jackson -- his face was all over this one) is beyond insane.

And my biggest problem with this was the way the local stations jumped on this -- like a dog humping a light pole. They showed the "reenactment" and presented it as if it were the real deal. I was beyond frustrated.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Pretty far apart. This is east of Atlanta near Athens and that was near Chattanooga. Over two hours if you drove.

And it was so surreal and bizarre. The whole concept and the white masks was weird as hell.

I see clearly the fact that activists brooding over pasts issues like this is pathetic. Today's *civil rights leaders* are to being useless and irritating people like MJ and Magij Johnson were to basketball and muhammed ali was to boxing.

So that aside, in what ways do you think the "lynching" reenactments were innacurate, given that they serve not the slightest practical purpose? Do you think they were exaggerated? Omitted key historical facts? Or simply that they need to shut their f**king mouths and get over their baggage?

First and foremost, I don't think the images should have been shown on local news. I watch for "news", not reenactments. Secondly, I do think they were exaggerated. Finally, I think that while many folks were legitimately concerned with the case in question (and if there's a way to find the killers and bring them to justice, then I'm for any realistic option to do so), that Tyrone Brooks and Jesse Jackson were both there for their own self-flagellation, and not out of some sense of justice.

Especially commemorating the 59th anniversary of anything seems a little odd.

"As a 20-year-old civil rights activist..."

He sure looks older than that in your photo!
