New York Post columnist John Podhoretz has ripped into Hollywood stars who "are out to bash the U.S. for its policy on Iraq.
In his Wednesday column headlined "Hollywood Hell, Podhoretz tells readers:
# Oliver Stone is directing a movie about the 9/11 attacks.
This is the same Oliver Stone who has called the attacks a legitimate "revolt against America. The conspiracy theorist and "JFK director has also suggested the attacks might have been the brainchild of multinational corporations.
Stone says his new 9/11 film is "not about the motives of the terrorists. Podhoretz writes: "God forbid anyone should question the motives of the terrorists.
# Steven Spielberg is making a movie about the aftermath of the Munich Olympics massacre, when the Israeli government launched a campaign to assassinate those responsible for killing 11 Israeli athletes.
The movies screenwriter Tony Kushner is a self-proclaimed Marxist. He was a signatory of a letter written after 9/11 that accused U.S. leaders of unleashing "a spirit of revenge following the attacks, and said the "brutal repercussions have been felt from the Philippines to Palestine.
Podhoretz writes that Kushner "views Israeli self-defense in the Intifada as a brutal repercussion from American warmongering after 9/11, and takes inspiration from Israeli soldiers who refuse to serve in the West Bank or Gaza.
# The co-writer of Spielbergs last film "War of the Worlds, David Koepp, has said that to many people the aliens in the movie symbolize the U.S. military.
"Certainly there are a lot of political undertones and overtones, he told the Chicago Sun Times. "In other parts of the world, the new movie will be [about] fear of American invasion. It will be clearly about the Iraq war for them.
# Jane Fonda has created new controversy by announcing she plans to take a cross-country bus tour to call for an end to U.S. military operations in Iraq.
The move comes after "Hanoi Jane spent time this spring "sorta kinda apologizing for her appalling conduct during the Vietnam War, Podhoretz writes.
# Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal has said she believed the U.S. was in "some way responsible for the 9/11 attacks.
"Gyllenhall has apologized for her remarks, says Podhoretz, "doubtless following several emphatic conversations with her agents and managers.
Keep on buying tickets to their horrendous movies and Hollywood will continue to spawn more Hollywood morons for your aggravation...
Jane, the DC Chapter of the FR is waiting for you.
Not I, no way I will go to the movies, buy any DVD's and I don't care how much my 6-year old son or wife complains.
Why is this all such a big surprise. Actors tend to be dumb. Hollywood is mostly actors. Therefore why is it a surprise when dumb people say dumb things. If the last few elections have proven, no one pays attentions to hollywood. Name the last time Oliver Stone had a successful movie? Was it Alexander?
I don't ever go to their movies anymore. I don't rent them, and I do all I can to convince others to boycott them.
Meanwhile, nary a peep in the mainstream media about how Denzel Washington opened his checkbook and wrote out a check for the amount of money it takes to build a new Fisher House at the Brook Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
For those who do not know, a Fisher House is similar to a Ronald McDonald House - it is temporary housing for family members of military people receiving treatment at a Military Hospital. In this particular instance, it is a burns unit in Texas that has seen its' existing Fisher Home filled to capacity with Iraq vets.
Denzel was visiting and asked the Colonel in charge how much such a home would cost to build. When he heard the amount, he produced his checkbook and wrote that amount on a check and handed it to the Colonel.
I guess that's not as cool as going to prr-invasion Iraq and sucking up to Saddam. But, it does my patriotic heart good to see. I'll gladly pay to see any Denzel movie in the future.
That homoerotic piece of garbage bombed big time!
No wonder Hollywood is in its worse slump in 20 years. I haven't been to a movie in months and I sure as hell won't put money into the pocket of a-holes like Spielberg and Oliver Stone.
I for one have boycotted movies for years. I am not going to support these whackos who affect our youth and culture in general. They are all out of touch and promote lies and perversity so that they can live in Malibu. Barf.
That's because it didn't happen that way.
Let's keep up the good work and encourage others not to pay hard earned ca$h to see the crap Hollywood "creates". At the same time we should support good quality films.
I have not gone for many years, but I do rent. We have a nice entertainment center and all can watch for less than the price of one ticket
I went to see War of the Worlds. Scary but kind of silly too. What gauls me is the analogy of the aliens to American troops.
The movie uses every single Speilberg trick of movie making. You see glimpses of Close Encounters, Indiana Jones, Jaws etc. Much is implausible.
In short, I can't see this film making any money esp now that it's anti-American message is getting out.
Ahhhhh yes . . . another Hollyweird genius . . .
Thank you for posting this information...you should email John P and ask him to write a column about some positive moves being made by Hollywood...I know that Gary Sinese went over to the ME to visit the troops...kids particularly need to know that there are positive ways that people can express themselves and utilize their money while being supportive of our country.
Evil begets evil. Good begets good. Denzel choose the latter, and he will reap what he sows. There's not too many Hollywood performers that I would have any interest in watching, but it's nice to know that at least those that take the higher road are good performers to boot. ;-)
