I could be terribly wrong here, but there seems to be a streak of the rapist/pillage/plunderer in the culture, that is to say, the culture appears to celebrate the ability of one individual to dominate another, or others.
Perhaps their status is heaven is advanced with each successful, successive defloration of each innocent.
