said only stem cells from embryos that "would otherwise be discarded," not implanted in a woman or frozen indefinitely, should be considered for research.

This whole statement bothers me. Why are we creating embryos that "would otherwise be discarded" anyway? Also, why are Republicans simply taking this situation as a given? Why are we not challenging it?

Because apparently Republicanism is just a position a person takes in a pre-election debate. Too many of them don't really mean what they say.

Exactly. Why do we not have a limit on how many embryos can be created? I believe that in Europe, couples can not have more than three (or something like that)...

I have also heard that many of these embryos are not going to be viable in any case (which is why you have women implanting six at a time) and despite statements implying there are vast numbers of "leftover embryos", there is not a limitless supply...so the question is, what happens when all the "spare embryos" that were "just going to be disposed of anyway" get used up???

That looks like a "slippery slope" to me, and Frist is immoral to be requisitioning our tax money to be funding this research, which aside from moral issues, whoever said even the venture capitalists aren't interested in investing in this was right! Let him use his own money if he thinks it's such a great idea...he's got enough, so why doesn't the good doctor also become a great "philanthropist" using his own dime, hmmm??
