Oh, great news! Glad she has the courage to stand up for her beliefs.
I hope you are right.
Smart kid.
...Taking money from the ACLU is like taking money from the Devil himself.
She said they had received a number of similar calls from people interested in contributing to a scholarship for Helena.
Gwen suggested that folks interested in contributing to Helena's education should make checks out to Helena Aldridge and send them to the church at:
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church
1012 Pennsylvania Ave
Clearwater, FL 33755
I asked Gwen about the church. They have about 200 members, and she said they are a traditional Southern Baptist church. They sing hymns. ( always a good thing... )
NB: the address she gave me is slightly different than the address Google mentions. She gave me 1012 Pennsylvania Ave, but the Google address is 1014 Pennsylvania Ave. The office could be in an adjacent building with a different address.
So there's one option.
Well..the article did say FAMU....
Pinging you to 86. Address of a church that will be taking donations for Helena's scholarship. I'm going to follow up with her directly and let her know that it's been posted that her church is receiving funds.
Thanks,
isn't it funny, how the no hymn 'movement' has really divided churches? I'm in my mid thirties (for another month, then it's late thirties) and I just left a church I've attended for almost 10 years, in part because I want my daughter to learn hymns. I love the other stuff, but I agree with you when a church still sings hymns, you can guesstimate that they are holding on to the Word as well.
Yes, it is too bad about the division because of music.
I am ambivalent about the praise tunes. I like to play them, but not sing them. In general I think they are weaker than the old hymns, but I have not done a lot of analysis in this area.
Tunes and words need to be relevant to the current culture, of course, and that's a challenge.
I hope your daughter enjoys the hymns!
