I didn't trash Wal-mart. I said there is a hidden cost to a company that receives subsidies from cities and pays less than a living wage and few benefits. Do they have cheap goods? Yes. Do many of its workers rely on state healthcare subsidies, food stamps, housing vouchers and other public aid? Yes. There are two sides to the coin and I just want people to think about the other side.

No more so than any other retailer.

Less so than most.

Are you too naive to understand the simple fact that ALL retailing falls in that simplistic statement?
Please explain the cost of these employees to the state if they did not have these jobs? Please explain the impact of the loss to the tax revenues Walmart and others generate. Obviously you haven't thought through your conclusion.

Bravo Sierra..........you want no such thing. You want people to agree with your drivel without any back up for your opinion.

"Less than a living wage"........wHat is a living wage in your mind? WalMart pays well over minimum wage

Walmart recieves more government subsidies than any other corporation in the United States. I have to crack up when I read some people's comments that they are a conservative company. What a crock. Walmart takes public tax dollars and subsidies left and right, every way they can. They just wave the American flag while doing it, which I guess is enough to fool some of the folks here.

That statement is also true of our military. Pay in the E-1 through E-3 ranks is very low, and there are cases of families using food stamps to make ends meet.

You don't stay an E-3 forever -- you either get out and earn a better living, or work hard to advance up the military ladder, gaining pay raises as you go.

Same thing with Wal-Mart employees. If they choose to remain in an entry level job that doesn't cover basic expenses, it's not the fault of the company.

Is Bob ignorant? Yes. He is telling us they wouldn't be relying on state healthcare subsidies, food stamps, housing vouchers and other public aid if they were working for another retailer or, heaven forbid, were simply unemployed.

When making choices, Bob, stick to choosing between alternatives that actually exist. If you want to get rid of subsidies, then get rid of subsidies. Don't punish or impugn those actually helping people to get off them. Good grief.
