Cute little blond/e kids could come from Argentina. Remember, there are cute little children of Nazis living there. AND there's the Castillian Spanish who emigrated there. Looking at them will give you a double-take if you're not expecting blonde, blue-eyed young ladies to speak Spanish fluently.

Anyone can check these facts, but I guess the NYT has no computer access to truth.

I'm just coming to this thread, and haven't sifted through all the posts; so forgive if this has already been brought up.

Some Latin American countries have blonde haired/blue eyed folks in their population. I was in Argentina, and our tour guide, 100% pure Argentinian, looked like she'd grown up in London. Blonde hair, blue eyes -- but Argentinian. I remember remarking to her about the surprise, and she told me something about how it's not as uncommon as you might think.
