It should be pointed out that most conservatives don't support this round of BRAC cuts in the middle of a war, and with China racing pell-mell to outproduce us in naval vessels as it gears up to challenge us on Taiwan.

The fact that the RINOS states appear to be taking a hit doesn't give us any opportunity to unseat the RINOs with more conservative republicans. If anything, it poses a danger that the "deliver the bacon" porkers from the Demoncrats will be able to successfully get in...by handing them an issue.

South Dakota's lone GOP Senator, John Thune, freshly installed after a titannic battle against Tom Daschle, is being GOREd by the BRAC cuts, and it may make it untenable to ever hold this state, let alone expand our representation there.

That's been my understanding as well - States that voted for W seem to be getting hit with the closures just as hard as Kerry States (which Maine, regrettably, is one).
So I don't think that a charge of party patronage will stick all that well.

As mentioned, conservatives are just as unhappy about the base losses as are the dim; only for a different reason.

The tax-and spend socialists in charge up here have looted the economy so badly that we depend on the bases as one of the remaining sources of employment and revenue.

Much of our industry and business have been run out of state with some of the highest taxes and heaviest regulations in the World, much less the US.
So the commiocrats want to keep these cash cows right here where they can continue to exploit them.

Not to mention that a lot of the Civilian Workers in these bases - as well as at Bath Iron Works - are Union Members. And you know who the Unions usually support, don't you?

With the Chicoms rapidly working up a navy, to include a fleet of subs, it does not make much sense to this Conservative, anyway, to shut down what has been acknowledged to be the best sub repair facility in the US, or a base for the P-3 sub hunter aircraft.

Don't think the chicoms could reach the east coast?
They OWN the Panamna Canal, remember? (thanks, Jimmuh Carter!)

I would not be surprised if these subs and warships are being designed with the width of the Panama Canal in mind.

I find it ironic that the President that handed such a strategicly significant Naval assett over to the commies has a sub named after him.

I wonder if he managed to sabotage it while a guest on it's maiden dive? "Patriot" that he is, I wouldn't put it past him, if he couldn't give that away to the Chicoms, too.

I wonder if the PLAN will name one of THEIR subs for him, too?

They ought to, eh?

But this sort of political backstabbing is perfectly consistant with our Sr. Senator's track record, if anyone would care to look it up.

I fully expect her to block or help fillibuster/Bork Judge ROBERTS, too, BTW.

Unfortunately, she virtually OWNS the GOP in ME, and her lifetime incumbancy is essentially taken for granted.
It is also seen to that only her hand-picked Snowe-Clone Annointed ones ever get nominated (or supported) as Pubbie Candidates for any office of significance.

And for some strange reason, they regularly LOSE to the Dems, too. Imagine that?
